BASEBALL SKILLS COMPETITION at Youngsville

Saturday, May 21st from 3pm – 8pm (awards at approx. 8pm)

Events include: Home Run Derby, Road Runner and Golden Arm

Open to all leagues and all competitors

$10 entry gets you into all 3 events

$5 entry into any single event or any event ‘do over’ (if time permits)

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Youngsville Cooperstown 12yr old team

Home Run Derby Rules(Major League Field):

  1. Balls and pitchers will be provided by the contest organizers
  2. Each batter will be allowed a total of 10 swings
  3. The player with the most points after 10 swings will be declared the winner
  4. All decisions by the contest organizers will be final
  5. 1st and 2nd place trophies will be awarded for the following divisions
  6. 7 and underg. “Coaches” Division – 13+ years old
  7. 8 year olds
  8. 9 year olds
  9. 10 year olds
  10. 11 year olds
  11. 12 year olds
  12. Scoring system
  13. Five (5) pts will be awarded for each ball hit over the fence
  14. Three (3) pts will be awarded for each ball that hits the fence
  15. One (1) pt will be awarded for each ball that reaches the outfield grass
  16. For the kids 9 and under, the ‘fence’ will be the edge of the outfield grass and the infield dirt will be considered the ‘outfield’ grass.
  17. Tie-Breaker – The player hitting the most five point home runs will be declared the winner. This procedure will also be used for determining second place. If a tie still exists, the player with the most 3 pt hits will be declared the winner. If a tie still exists, a blind draw will be done to determine the winner.

Road Runner Rules (Minor League Field):

  1. Each participant will run around the bases, starting at home plate and ending at home plate. They will be timed by the official timer and their time will be recorded. Each player will be given two opportunities to run the bases with the faster of their two times counting toward the contest.
  2. The participant must make contact with each base and home plate or a 5 second penalty will be added to their time
  3. All decisions by the contest organizers will be final
  4. 1st and 2nd place trophies will be awarded for the following divisions
  5. 7 and underg. “Coaches” division – 13+ yrs old
  6. 8 year olds
  7. 9 year olds
  8. 10 year olds
  9. 11 year olds
  10. 12 year olds

Golden Arm Rules(Rookie Field):

  1. All participants will throw 5 balls from a designated area on the field. The length of the throw will be based upon the age grouping. Each participant will be given two (five ball) attempts at this event.
  2. Points will be awarded for throws making contact with a net (target) near home plate as follows:
  3. Five (5) pts for a throw hitting the target without bouncing
  4. Three (3) pts for a throw hitting the target that bounces first
  5. Tie-Breaker – The player hitting the most five point home runs will be declared the winner. This procedure will also be used for determining second place. Youngsville Movie Night – FREE

At dusk, on the Minor League Field, Youngsville will be hosting our Annual Outdoor Family Movie Night. Bring a blanket, chair, warm clothes and enjoy a night outside under the stars watching a great movie. The concession stand will be open serving up some great movie treats.
