JOB DESCRIPTION Housekeeper

BASE: Riverdale Specialist Eating Disorders Hospital

SALARY: £7.65 per hour

HOURS PER WEEK: 22.5 hours per week on a shift rotation including weekends.

REPORTS TO: Health & Safety Co-Ordinator

Riverdale is a specialist eating disorder hospital for the treatment of people aged 13 – 65 years. The hospital provides high quality care, led by experienced Consultant Psychiatrists and delivered by a talented mental health team with clinical expertise with an emphasis on the therapeutic relationship within a welcoming and supportive environment.

Eating disorders are highly complex illnesses that present with abnormalities in physical and psychological functioning. The physical complications have the potential to cause permanent damage and in some cases are life-threatening.

The causes of eating disorders are complex and multi-factorial. Treatment involves a comprehensive response including medical, psychiatric, psychological, social and educational interventions.

Riverdale provides a structured, safe and supportive environment in which staff engage with the distress, problems and strengths of the patients and their families. We aim to form trusting relationships within which the patients and their families can build on existing capacities and develop new skills.

JOB PURPOSE

·  To ensure the hospital and surrounding environment meets and maintains a high standard of cleanliness, in compliance with all Health and Safety Regulations.

·  To ensure all precautions are taken to prevent the spread of infection.

·  To ensure compliance with COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002)

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·  To ensure compliance with PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

·  Keeping toilets, baths, sinks, walls and floors clean

·  To clean bedrooms, make beds, dust and vacuum all areas

·  Maintain clean corridors, using warning cones when washing floors, shampoo carpets where necessary

·  Maintain a clean sluice.

·  Empty yellow clinical waste bags and rubbish daily

·  To keep all areas clean in accordance with cleaning rota or as requested by your duty manager

·  Assist with domestic kitchen duties when required

·  To carry out all duties in accordance with Riverdale policies designed to protect employees and service users.

·  Be able to work alone or in a team

·  To assist with the maintenance of stock control.

·  To use housekeeping trolleys at all times.

PERSONAL

·  Employees must maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and appearance

·  Employees must be positive and have a cheerful attitude.

·  Ensure respect and dignity of service users at all times

·  Knock before entering a client’s room

·  Refer to the client by their preferred name

DRESS CODE

·  Employees must attend their shift in uniform, use protective clothing provided and wear suitably flat footwear.

OTHER DUTIES

·  To attend training relevant to the post

·  To undertake any other duties as may reasonably fall within the boundaries of the post.

·  To work in compliance with all Company Policies/Procedures.

·  To observe the Company’s Equal Opportunities Policy in all aspects of the day-to-day duties relating to service users, staff, outside agencies and the public.
