Q2 – Comments

  • No where to go in the evening. Everything shuts early Need more indoor activities for bad weather 2 hour parking is a nuisance. Have to keep moving car, on a day at the beach 9/12/2016 12:52 PM
  • I was surprised how much Barry has improved its gone from being tacky to somewhere where you can spend a pleasant day either with children or adults only.9/10/2016 11:06 PM
  • It is a lovely place to visit now with all the improvements on the front. We are a retired couple and we often visit for a walk. Love going up on to Friars Point and just sitting looking back at Whitmore Bay or looking over to the Knap and Porthkerry beyond. 9/6/2016 11:57 AM
  • I wish people were banned from smoking on the beach. I also would like a separate area for ball games. The beach was dirty from litter and the fairground looked cluttered and unsafe. There were no public toilets near the station. The station was crowded, a group of about 40 children on a day trip with their church group all tried to board the train with no regard for others, the marshals did nothing useful to allow all on the train safely. I will be returning when dogs are allowed on the beach again. 9/6/2016 11:34 AM
  • Clean beach and constant collection of litter keeps it looking pristine. 9/3/2016 9:27 PM
  • Wouldn't go on the famous log flume. That I remember so much as a kid....it's dangerous I nearly smashed my sons head into log due to fast deceleration at the last drop.... Never again. 9/3/2016 7:49 PM
  • Please get your enforcement officers to enforce litter pick up. Why not get staff to wear t shirts which remind people of sanctions and fines for example. Great work in general though. 9/3/2016 8:04 AM
  • Love visiting with children and our dog. We have been several times this summer, and enjoyed eating at the many dog friendly cafes, walking along the front, played mini golf etc. My only complaint is the price if parking in the new car park - puts me off visiting on some days. 9/2/2016 9:27 PM
  • Great Seaside Resort have been coming for years! 9/2/2016 4:30 PM
  • The facilities are good but I found the fact that there were people smoking everywhere to be off putting and inconsistent with the family friendly vibe it tries to portray. For example smoking under the Boofy's shelter prevented us standing in line for chips, and we had smokers all around us on the beach so left early. Please consider making the beach and promenade smoke free. Also the rubbish on the beach was awful. That and the smoking is unfortunately due to the class of visitor you get when there is a fairground and a direct train from Merthyr and surrounding areas. 9/2/2016 4:11 PM
  • Stayed with the Motorcaravanners club. Very impressed with seafront, promenade, beach huts and climbing wall.Eat at the Fig Tree on the prom.so impressed booked a beach hut but sadly wasnt able to use as clashed with grandaughters 3rd birthday party. Would love to win another to take her for the day. 9/2/2016 3:03 PM
  • It's a fab place and I feel so lucky to live close by. The events are brilliant. Some nice restaurants would make it a lovely evening venue like bay 5 which has been a great addition. The biggest issue is litter - lots cigarette butts, glass etc which is a big problem when you're bringing small children to the beach. Please can this be looked at?!

  • In my childhood it was always a special occasion to go to Barry Island, It now surpasses anything I can remembered, It looks so clean and appealing that families flock to enjoy a day out without being to expensive
  • 9/2/2016 1:55 PM
  • We hired a beach hut for a family birthday and had a very enjoyable time. However, to really enjoy the facility we, like many others needed to carry chairs and various other items (cups, kettles, spare clothing etc.) to and from the car park. This is not easily accessible. I think it would be good idea if the Council purchased 3 or 4 trolleys that could be offered to hirers when collecting their keys so that they could transport equipment from the car park.

  • I live in Barry so know what to expect when I visit the island9/2/2016 1:23 PM
  • When the tide went out the section of beach with small stones/shells on it is actually littered with shards of broken glass! Hard to relax whilst my two children run about on that. I filled a bucket and binned it but there was plenty more...9/2/2016 1:13 PM
  • Getting there but little to do in inclement weather9/2/2016 1:04 PM
  • Litter on the beach during hot days is appalling - there is no provision of bins on the beach, yes there are plenty on the promenade but people wont walk to these from the beach or send there kids to them if it means they go out of sight. Take a look a places such as Woolacombe in North Devon - bins are provide at strategic location (8 lift top wheelie bins contaned in a trailer so it can be removed from the beach and moved with the tides)
  • 9/2/2016 12:47 PM
  • The work on the front is lovely, it's a huge improvement!9/2/2016 12:39 PM
  • The council need to seal the deal with companies interested in nells point otherwise Barry island will not fufil potential. Also a multi storey for the overflow car park which will free up land at old harbour car park for leisure and tourism development. Council needs to finish Barry island master plan which was first mooted as far back as 20109/2/2016 12:33 PM
  • good selection of places to do things, eat, use the toilet9/2/2016 12:25 PM
  • My only complaint would be the parking charges. While £5 is very reasonable for a day on the Island, limiting the lower charge to only an hour makes it impossible to have a stroll AND a cup of coffee. Maybe better to set the lower charge for two hours?8/7/2016 5:25 PM
  • I'd like to see family accommodation8/7/2016 4:26 PM
  • Barry Island still requires more facilities. Good restaurants, that are open in the evening. More accommodation, the Butlins site really needs a family friendly hotel or other kind of accommodation.8/6/2016 11:12 PM
  • We love Barry Island as a family!8/4/2016 10:35 PM
  • I hadn't visited Barry Island for many years but was keen to check out the recent improvements and facilities such as the beach huts, climbing walls and recommended cafes. I visited on a warm cloudy day in the school summer holidays along with my brother and four children under the age of 10. We had a super time and found the beach and promenade relatively litter free. The island was not massively busy and we had plenty of beach space to ourselves. There were convenient fast food and ice cream outlets to choose from, the children enjoyed a dip in the sea (between the lifeguard flags) and we enjoyed the colourful beach huts, a coast path walk and the climbing wall. We were able to park with no problem free of charge. I would choose to visit again most probably during low season when the Island is not so busy. I was impressed to find there were numerous litter bins for public use and the Council street cleansing team was on hand to keep the promenade area tidy.

  • Long beaches, plenty of space to explore, funfair on the sea front, nice shops, plenty of places to eat, easy to get to by car, train or bus, toilets and cleaning facilities.8/4/2016 3:14 PM

  • Butlins reunion

Q 6

  • Have a caravan at Rhoose so Barry is very close to visit.
  • We came from Worcestershire
  • We hired a beach Hut on one occasion, it was a fantastic day. Only thing that could improve it is access to a trolley to take stuff from car park to huts. Was difficult with a young child, lots of carry and a steep climb. Could be borrowed when key is collected and returned as soon as it is finished and only 2-3 would be required for all beach huts. We will definitely be hiring one again.
  • We only moved to the area 5 weeks ago from Berkshire
  • Staying with relatives for two weeks
  • We've just moved into the Vale
  • Live in Barry but not on the island.
  • Come to watch Barry Town F.C.
  • I love what has been done to make Barry Island such a pleasant place to visit. Thank you for all the summer events - the Night of Fire was amazing! Thanks also for keeping the beach, toilets, prom, gardens etc so clean and attractive. The publicity about the litter on the beach is not you fault - it is the idiots that visit - the Island is ALWAYS beautifully clean every morning.
  • We live in St Athan and visit often.
