BARRINGTON AREA COUNCIL ON AGING

One Scholarship based on community service, good citizenship, academics and an interest in pursuing a career focused on working with older adults or family caregivers in a health care, social work or other care giving related profession.

One scholarship awarded to a student in the top 50% of the class and majoring in a field focused on working with children with special needs.

COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIPS
SIX scholarships to recognize outstanding service to the community will be awarded to students who have served the community 200hours or more over four yearsand have aminimum GPA of 3.2.

BARRINGTON JUNIOR WOMEN’S CLUB JANICE CLARKE PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Barrington Junior Women's Club is proud to offer one $5000 scholarship in honor of our past President Janice Clarke who lost her courageous battle with cancer in June of 2007. The "Janice Clarke Presidential Scholarship" will be awarded to an outstanding student who demonstrates strong leadership skills and exemplary character. Applicants must have a minimum of 100 community service hours, be in the top 25% of the class and involved as a leader in one or more extra-curricular activities.

Hugh Frebault Scholarship

The $1,000 scholarship would be renewable for 1 year based on attendance and grades and is intended to be awarded to a graduating senior who would attend either HarperCollege or College of Lake County. The student should be in the top 25% of the class, demonstrate financial need, and an interest in leadership and service.

BARRINGTON WOMAN’S CLUB

One scholarship based on academics, participation in school activities, financial need. Recipient must be a full time student (12 credit hours minimum) and maintain a B average throughout the four years of college. Children of members may not apply.

BHS Latino Student Leadership Team

Scholarship based on financial need and academics. Award is available to Hispanic/Latino students who wish to continue their education at a two or four year college or university, vocational or trade school. A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above is required.

  1. Two $3750 scholarships awarded to well rounded students, with a “C” average or above, planning to attend a four year college or university. (These scholarships are not limited to a particular college, but preference will be given to any student attending CentralCollege, Pella, IA).

Danny Black Memorial Scholarship

“Books by Black”
Danny was a BHS student (class of 2010) who was always a bright light. He made people smile and laugh and found great joy in helping others.
  • Four $500 scholarships awarded to students to help defray the cost of college text books. Scholarships are based on students who have a “C ” or better average with community service, good citizenship, and interest in pursuing a career in helping others.

DONN K. BRANSTRATOR Service-Above-Self Scholarship

Barrington Breakfast Rotary club is honored to provide this scholarship in memory of Donn K. Branstrator. This scholarship is based on community service and will be awarded to a student who is involved in an on-going service project or in a single project that is above and beyond the ordinary.

DORIS & EVERETT BERNARDO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

One scholarship awarded to a graduating senior of Hispanic heritage who will be enrolled as a candidate for an undergraduate degree from an accredited 4 year college or university. Scholarship is based on financial need. Student must carry at least 12 credit hours per semester, maintain a “C” or better grade and continuously attend school.

Helping Hand Scholarship

Barrington Realtor Geoff Ommen (UCLA Theta Chi) is proud to sponsor this scholarship for seniors planning to attend a 4 year college or university. Students must participate in extra-curricular activities and have a minimum GPA of 3.5.

This scholarship is based solely on the merit of volunteer experience. The award is open to any graduating senior of Barrington High School who participated in Teens for Teens during their 8th grade year, has at least 150 hours of volunteer experience, and wishes to continue their education at a two or four year college or university.
