Barley & Barkway Schools trip to Great Yarmouth, Wednesday 12th July 2017

Dear parents,

We are organising a trip for all the children of Barley and Barkway Schools. The children will travel from Barley and Barkway on Richmond’s coaches, visit Sealife at Great Yarmouth and then spend time on the beach next to the Sealife Centre and the Wellington Pier.

This trip will link with different aspects of the curriculum in each class and will be an opportunity for the children to experience a ‘traditional British seaside trip!’

The beach at Great Yarmouth is a Blue Flag beach, with clean sand and water. The Sealife Centre will be an opportunity for the children to see a variety of creatures that live in different areas of the world and to hear about some of the Centre’s conservation work.

A thorough risk assessment has been carried out for the trip, as we want all the children and adults to enjoy the day and be safe.

The adult/ child ratio is 1:3 for Years 1-4 and 1:2 for Nursery and Reception. The children will be dropped off right next to the beach.

We would like the children to experience paddling at the very edge of the sea. To do this safely adults and children will join hands and walk into the sea together (including experienced swimmers). The children will need flip/flops, jelly shoes or any other sandals to wear at the sea’s edge, as it has coarse sand and small pebbles underfoot.

Children who usually have a school lunch will have a packed lunch provided by the school and children who usually bring in their own packed lunch to school can do so for the trip (no fizzy drinks please).

Further details of what the children need to bring will be provided nearer the time.

The cost of this trip is £12 per child which covers the cost of the entrance to Sealife and for the coach travel. This trip will be subsidised by FOBBS to make it as affordable as possible-thank you very much!

For Nursery children we would like to invite one parent/ grandparent/ carer to accompany and supervise your child on this trip. There is no charge for this as we have a number of free adult places for Early Years.

We have a limited number of places for parents of children in Reception to Year 4 (no siblings please). If you would like to join us, please indicate on the slip below. There will be a charge of £12 per person to cover the day’s costs. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

The children need to arrive at their home school at the usual time. There will be two coaches picking up and dropping off at each school. The coaches will leave at 9.15am and return by 4.30pm. We hope this late finish does not cause any inconvenience, please let us know if you have any difficulty.

We hope that you agree that this will be an enjoyable and informative trip to end our school year.

Please complete the attached slip and return to your child’s school office. Payment to be made via Schoolcomms or cheque to the school.

Mrs McKeon and Mrs Brown will be leading this trip and know that they will be proud, as ever, of the children’s behaviour.

Mrs McKeon is looking forward to her last trip as Headteacher with feelings of joy and sadness!

Yours Sincerely

Mrs M Davies-McKeon and Mrs S Brown
