Barbara L. Maxfield Glover was born on January 29, 1923, to Asa Maxfield and Elva Labrum Butler. Her grandparents were Joseph Smith Maxfield and Matilda Ann Turpin.

Barbara grew up with her family in Butler Utah. She had four brothers and four sisters; she was the 7thout of nine children. Barbara is the only living sibling. She went to Butler Elementary, Union Middle School and Jordan High School. While in high school she was on the yearbook committee. As a little girl she loved paper dolls. She loved getting them for birthdays and Christmas. Her favorite doll was given to her on her birthday from her aunt Mary Butler. Her dad worked at a car company and would pick them up from school once in a while. One car they owned was an old Ford. Whenever they wanted to go up hill they had to go backwards.

After her mother died she went to Boise to live with her sister and her husband. She attended Boise Junior College. She later returned to Salt Lake City and was introduced to Calvin through her best friend Alta who happened to be Calvin’s sister. It took Barbara awhile to decide to marry Calvin. He asked her on three separate occasions, one time she through the ring across the room. She finally gave in and they were married on Oct. 23, 1947. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple; she was twenty-four years old, (almost considered an old spinster during that time period)!!!

Together they took over Calvin’s family business, the Jordan Nursery, now called Jordan Garden Center and Jordan Camper. They worked side by side every day to make the business grow. They had three children, Paul, Blake, and Judy. Barbara has 15 grand children and forty-five great grand children. Paul, her favorite son, (according to him) married his third cousin, which happened to be another Maxfield.

Some of Barbara’s favorite things are to read her scriptures and mystery novels. She likes ice cream and the color blue. Barbara has traveled many places but her favorite was Jerusalem. Barbara is one of the most kind and patient people you will ever meet. Her family means a lot to her and she loves them very much.
