Program Improvement Year 3 Corrective Actions Plan 2006-2007
As a Program Improvement (PI) Year 3 school, CentralElementary School, using technical assistance from the Banning Unified School District (BUSD) and Riverside County Office of Education (RCOE) through the Regional System of District and School Support, developed a plan with the participation of teachers and parents. The site chose to use the CDE PI Year 3 Corrective Actions Protocol, its results from the state’s Academic Program Survey, and analysis of why the school failed to make AYP as the foundations for this plan. This Corrective Actions Plan will enable the school to make fundamental reforms that will lead to improved student achievement. The actions were developed to reflect the critical steps needed to bring the site to full or substantial implementation of the nine Essential Program Components, the research-based strategies for effective schools in increasing student achievement in reading/language arts and mathematics according to the Academic Program Survey. In addition to the Essential Program Components, the plan also addresses the schoolwide, subgroups and content areas where AYP targets were not met.
Central Elementary used its District School Leadership Team (DSLT) made up of site and district administrators, teachers and parents along with the technical assistance of the RCOE consultant to develop this plan that addresses the identified areas of need for improving student achievement in reading/language arts and mathematics. The DSLT strategically analyzed the school’s history of improvement efforts to uncover those areas most likely to be responsible for the school’s failure to meet AYP goals for the past five years. The resulting Program Improvement Year 3 Corrective Actions Plan provides whole school reform that will lead to fundamental changes in teaching and learning through expanded leadership, collaborative decision-making and a focus on strategies to increase student achievement. Through the ongoing monitoring by the district, Central will implement this plan that specifically focuses on curriculum, instruction, assessment, professional development, collaboration, teacher support and fiscal funding all targeted to increasing the site’s AYP. This plan is also contained in the site’s Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA).
Upon approval by its Board of Trustees, the BanningUnifiedSchool District will continue to ensure that technical assistance along with appropriate funding and monitoring are provided to ensure implementation of the school’s Program Improvement Year 3 Corrective Actions Plan. The district will provide notification to the public and parents at the beginning of the school year describing what the school, district; county and state are doing to address the problem of low academic achievement through the implementation of the plan. This notification will also include how parents can become involved in addressing the targeted academic issues, how they can transfer their student to another school, and how they can access supplemental education services if requested.
