Bancroft Municipal Utility

Appliance Rebate Program

Residential, commercial, and rural customers of the Bancroft Municipal Electric Utility may qualify for rebates under the “Energy Efficiency Rebate Program”. Participants must be retail customers of BMU, and the equipment must be installed in the BMU electric service territory and cannot be relocated or sold for resale until retired from service.

BMU reserves the right to meter, at our expense, installed equipment to aid in determination of actual energy savings. Rebates will not exceed equipment costs minus any manufacturers or dealer rebates. Customers are responsible to insure that all equipment is installed in accordance with all codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.

BMU does not guarantee reduced usage, demand or cost savings. BMU makes no warranties, expressed or implied, with the respect to any equipment purchased or installed. In no event shall BMU be liable for any incidental or consequential damages. BMU does not endorse any manufacturer or product in the program.

Completed applications will be accepted on a first come first serve basis, until all funds are committed. BMU reserves the right to verify installation and invoices prior to rebate being paid. Programs may be changed or cancelled by BMU without notice. Any income tax or other taxes which may be payable as a result of the rebate being paid (or applied to the utility account) are the responsibility of the customer. The decision of BMU, regarding any disputes which arise in the rebate program, is final.

Customer rebates will be paid as a credit to their utility bill. Payment will be made upon approval of completed application, original sales ticket, EnergyStar label verification, and BMU verification.

REBATES WILL ONLY BE APPLIED TO ACCOUNTS THAT ARE CURRENT AND PAID UP TO DATE. In the event a landlord installs and pays for appliances in rental properties where the utility bill is paid by the renter, the rebate is paid to the landlord. In other words, the rebate is paid to the person who paid for the appliances. Annual maximum amount of rebates to be paid by BMU per calendar year is $7,500.00. Annual maximum rebate per customer is $500.00

Customers who receive the rebate will agree on the application to allow BMU to install and operate load control equipment including, but not limited to, A/C, heat pumps, or water heaters when the Board of Trustees (City Council) of the Bancroft Municipal Utility determines that use of load control is required on the BMU electric system.
