1.06 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

A.  Joint cover system consisting of a continuous, extruded, chambered silicone compression seal

bonded to the substrate using a silicone adhesive/sealant

B.  Joint covers shall permit unrestrained movement of the joint without disengagement of

the cover. Joint covers must conform to the requirements of ASTM E1399.
1. Specify x-axis joint movement. (Joint expansion and contraction; Specify for each building

level: wall)

2. Specify y-axis joint movement. (Joint shear movement; Specify for each building level:

wall)

3. Specify z-axis joint movement. (vertical shear movement; Specify for each building level:

wall)

C.  Fire rated joint cover systems shall have been tested by and shall be listed with an

independent, nationally recognized testing and listing. Fire resistant joint covers shall be rated for [1 hour] [2 hours] [not less than the fire rating of the adjacent construction]

2.02 MATERIALS

1.  Face Seals: Shall be ASTM D2000 4GE709M flexible Silicone

2.  Fire Barrier: choose the appropriate fire barrier(s) from the list below

Metaflex 5000 MetaBlock tested in accordance with UL 2079 and/or ASTM E1966, *

*including hose stream test, where applicable, at the full rated period

3.  Silicone adhesive/sealant shall have the following properties:

a. ASTM C 661 Durometer Hardness, Shore A points 15

b. ASTM D 412 Ultimate Tensile Strength,

maximum elongation psi (kg/mm2) 100 (0.070)

c. ASTM D 412 Elongation, maximum percent 1600

d. ASTM C 794 Peel Strength lb/in (kg/cm) 25 (4.46)

e. ASTM C 1135 Tensile Adhesion,

1). at 25% extension psi (kg/mm2) 15 (0.010)

2). at 50% extension psi (kg/mm2) 20 (1.015)

f. ASTM C 1135 Weathering, after 22,400 hours in

QUV Weatherometer ASTM G 53

at 25% extension psi (kg/mm2) 30 (0.021)

at 50% extension psi (kg/mm2) 40 (0.028)

g. ASTM C 719 Joint Movement Capabilities

Extension percent +100

Compression percent -50

h. ASTM C 1248 Staining, after 14 days of

50% compression, at 70°C (158°F) on concrete,

granite, limestone and brick None

4. Accessories, sealant and other materials required for complete installation in

accordance with the manufacturer’s written installation instructions.
