Position Description

General Responsibilities:

The Supported Employment Specialist is expected to support applicants in the field of developmental disabilities or related disorders in all areas of Vocational development as identified in the Single Plan and Individual Plan of Supported Employment. The Supported Employment Specialist is responsible for delivering comprehensive vocational services to the clientele in order to assist in attaining career goals that can lead to self-sufficiency. The Supported Employment Specialist is expected to represent Babcock Center appropriately and conduct himself/herself in a professional manner when interacting with people receiving services, their families, employers, staff from other agencies and the general public.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Direct Service Responsibilities:
  1. Focuses on learning the vocational desires, goals and needs of each applicant supported and ensure that each applicant is a full participant in their own employment planning process.
  1. Develops and maintains a thorough understanding of Positive Behavior Supports.
  1. Provides and documents individualized supports to ensure desired vocational outcomes for each applicant served.
  1. Facilitates positive interaction and communication between the applicant, employers, co-workers, family members and personnel from other agencies.
  1. Participates in strategy planning and problems solving in overcoming barriers to employment for the applicant.
  1. Focuses on assisting each applicant in successful competitive employment outcomes.
  1. Provides all applicants with opportunities and choice to participate in competitive employment situations.
  1. Advises family members or home providers of the need to report earned income to Social Security officials.
  1. Provide employers with an understanding of the rights of applicants, America Disability Act information and benefits of employing people with disabilities.
  1. Coordinates work schedules and addresses transportation needs for applicants.
  1. Coordinates job interviews and starting dates of employment.
  1. Assist with resume writing and employment forms for each applicant served.
  1. Maintain prescribed records, complete Therap records, DDSN – DSAL billing, evaluation data on placements and all other data as outlined.
  1. Demonstrates competency and knowledge of all Supported Employment Values.
  1. Act as liaison between employers and applicants.
  1. Efficient with computers, technology and programs.
  1. Performs other duties as assigned.
  1. Must have adequate and reliable transportation and maintain approved driving privileges with Babcock Center.
  1. Documentation Responsibilities:

1. Documents progress for each person served accurately, legibly

and in a timely manner.

2. Document Single Plan progress for each person served.

3. Completes and maintains files and all relevant paperwork according to the

DDSN Supported Employment Standards on each applicant served.

4. Compiles monthly paperwork to be turned into Supervisor of Supported

Employment.

5. Compiles quarterly and yearly paperwork to be to turned into Supervisor

of Supported Employment.

6. Documents all incident reports, accident/injury reports, etc. as

required.

  1. Safety/Standards Responsibilities:

1.Complies with all safety and security procedures and regulations.

2. Ensures compliance with all Babcock Center policies and

procedures.

3. Demonstrates knowledge of basic licensing and Supported

Employment Standards as developed by DDSN.

  1. Budgetary Responsibilities:
  1. Uses resources efficiently.
  2. Offers suggestions for more efficient use of resources as identified.

Working Conditions:

Supported Employment Specialist is expected to work 40 hours a week, generally between 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. However, flexibility is a must and should be maintained in consideration of the work hours or the people we support in training and follow-up services. This position is considered non-exempt. The position may require work outdoors, operation of heavy machinery, and tools and the ability to acclimatize in a vast variety of work environments, evening, holiday and weekend hours.

Supervision:

The Supported Employment Specialist reports directly to the Supervisor of Supported Employment. In the absence of the Supervisor of Supported Employment the Supported Employment Specialist will report to the Program Manager of Supported Employment and Industrial Services.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of 18 years old.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Valid South Carolina drivers license and good driving record.

Hazards/Potential Hazards:

Cleaning chemicals, ergonomic hazards: i.e. static postures, repetitive motion, trip hazards such as file drawers and electrical wires video display terminals.

Typical Physical Demands:

Sitting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching, frequent lifting, and manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines. Must have normal range of hearing and vision.

Typical Mental Demands:

Must be able to deal with stress associated with fast-paced work environment and multi-tasking. Formulate decision and act upon them. Adapt to changing work situations. Grasp and apply new ideas. Communicate with various personalities at all levels. Maintain confidentiality of all sensitive information.
