To provide a contemporary creative environment that engages with the ever-expanding digital environs of design communication
To foster the ability to recognise and practice virtual and analogue visual expression to illustrate and promote fashion.
To cultivate imaginative and diverse design approaches that question traditional techniques in the development of fashion design solutions
To cultivate the development of a range of transferable skills including IT, communication, presentation, team working and organisational abilities
To provide a progressive curriculum that facilitates the acquisition of industry required CAD skills recognised for employment by the creative industries

Teaching and Learning Methods
Acquisition of knowledge for all modules is achieved through a variety of project linked activities delivered via lectures, seminars, tutorials and practical demonstrations.
Assessment methods
All modules are assessed through Coursework as required in module project briefs. Each module project culminates in an appropriate research sketchbook/file/blog documenting the translation of research material into fashion solutions together with a digital and/or printed summative presentation of the design work. Digital presentations may be in the form of Power-Points, web sites and movies while printed presentations normally will take the form of portfolio boards or design/report booklets. These are assessed with regard to the learning outcomes identified in the individual module syllabus. Most of the modules underpin teaching and learning strategies employed by utilising formative assessment throughout module/ project delivery.

Teaching and Learning Methods
Subject-specific skills will be acquired via the visual, written and practical briefs of individual modules. Development of subject-specific skills will be delivered and practised cumulatively throughout the programme and students will be encouraged to develop an independent understanding of which and what to utilise to achieve appropriate solutions to project requirements.
Assessment methods
All modules are assessed through Coursework as required in module project briefs. A range of methods will be used for the assessment of the visual, written and practical project work including tutor and peer group critique together with feedback on the submission of final design solutions. Students will be required to reflect on their skill acquisition through their personal development plan. Each module project culminates in appropriate research and practical documentation plus digital and/or printed summative presentations of the individual design solutions. Digital presentations may be in the form of Power-Points, web sites and movies while printed presentations normally will take the form of portfolio boards or design/report booklets.

Teaching and Learning Methods
Cognitive skills are developed through practical work, tutorial seminar work and coursework projects. Practical and project work is designed to allow students to demonstrate achievement of all the learning outcomes in this category.
Assessment methods
All modules are assessed through Coursework as required in module project briefs. Students’ cognitive skills will be formatively assessed at various intermediary stages of individual module projects as the work is developed via sketchbooks, journals or blogs and through digital and/or printed presentations of the individual design solutions with regard to each module project submission requirements.

Assessment methods
All modules are assessed through Coursework as required in module project briefs. Assessment of these skills will be through the practical or written assignments and the identified presentations linked to module projects.
Key skills will be acquired via the visual, written and practical briefs of individual modules. Development of key skills will be throughout the programme and students will be encouraged to develop an independent understanding of which and what to utilise to achieve appropriate solutions to project requirements.

15.Personal Development Planning
The development of a student’s individual profile and aspiration is embedded in the delivery of Fashion and Textile Design Programme to enable student’s future career aspirations within the Fashion Industry.
In Level 4 students are guided through tutorial PDP sessions to establish a personal audit of transferable skills against potential employability in the fields of Fashion Design.
In Level 5 students are encouraged through tutorial to set their own PDP targets focusing on targeted employability in Fashion Design.
In Level 6 students are expected to promote their own individuality and personal career direction in a professional manner for employment within the Fashion and Textile Industry.
PDP is designed to; enable students to work towards the point they would like to be at on graduation; to help them acquire the skills needed for your chosen career; evaluate their strengths and plan to deploy them in a range of situations at UCLANand after graduation.
16.Admissions criteria
Programme Specifications include minimum entry requirements, including academic qualifications, together with appropriate experience and skills required for entry to study. These criteria may be expressed as a range rather than a specific grade. Amendments to entry requirements may have been made after these documents were published and you should consult the University’s website for the most up to date information.
Students will be informed of their personal minimum entry criteria in their offer letter.

All successful candidates must have achieved the following:
  • Achieve a minimum of 240UCAS tariff points at A2 or equivalent
  • Grade C in GCSE Maths and English or an equivalent; UK equivalents include key skills level 3 or functional skills level 2
