PLEASE READ CAREFULLY (prior to completing the attached internship application)

While the School of Business may be able to suggest internship opportunities, it is generally up to the student to find their own. It is also the student’s responsibility to formalize with the host company the activities that will make-up the internship experience.

Internships require a minimum of 10 to 15 hours per week if the internship is in the fall or spring semesters. Summer session internships will be based on the number of summer sessions it spans. Students must work a minimum of 150 hours in total in order to receive three credits.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERNSHIPS (a student must satisfy the following conditions to be granted an internship):

1.  Admitted to the School of Business and currently in good standing with a minimum GPA of 2.3

2.  Have completed a minimum of 75 credits, 9 credits in your specialization.

3.  Obtain an electronic Internship application form on line. This can be obtained from the Administrative Assistant for your department in item 6 below.

4.  Have reached an understanding with the host organization as to the time/activities involved in the internship.

5.  Ask a faculty member in your concentration and ask if s/he would be willing to be your internship advisor. When making the request be sure to bring your current term degree evaluation. If s/he will not participate, repeat this step with another faculty member in your concentration.

6.  Submit the completed application package (completed application, current term degree evaluation), signed by your faculty internship advisor to the appropriate department secretary below based on your concentration;

a.  Mrs. Debra Amendola, Accounting Dept. Secretary, for ACC 497

b.  Mrs. Maria Celina Alles-Gonzalez, Economics and Finance Dept. Secretary, for ECO 497 or FIN 497

c.  Ms. Jane Deluca, Management/MIS Dept. Secretary, for MGT 497 or MIS 497

d.  Ms. Debra Amendola, Marketing Dept. Secretary, for MKT 497

7.  Submit an electronic version of the completed application to the appropriate department secretary identified in step 6 and to the Coordinator of the Student Resource Center, in the School of Business .

8.  The application package will be forwarded to the Department Chairperson and the Dean of the School of Business for approval.

9.  Upon approval the completed application package will be submitted so that a course would be created.

10.  Register and pay for the class upon notification from the Registrar’s Office.

Internship Completion Requirements to receive academic credit (A student must have satisfied the following requirements, no later than eight weeks into the following semester):

1.  Have reported weekly to your Faculty Supervisor at the mutually agreed upon day and time indicated on your application.

2.  Have completed the required number of hours of internship activities.

3.  Maintained a journal or blog of daily internship activities

4.  Submitted an internship report including any special questions from the department from which the internship originated (see item 6 below).

5.  Student requests that Internship Supervisor completes the evaluation of the student’s performance and submits it the students Faculty Internship Advisor

6.  Special Departmental Questions:

a.  Accounting

i.  Describe which accounting classes were most helpful in performing your internship duties.

ii. Identify any strengths and weakness in the accounting processes you were involved in.

iii.  What would you recommend to improve the accounting function at the organization?

b.  Management

i.  Describe the organization’s structure, culture and leadership style?

ii. If you were called in as a consultant, what would be a weakness observed in the organization? A strength?

iii.  What would you recommend to upper management to improve the organization?

c.  MKT 497 students must also prepare a case study of the organization. (3 pages)

i.  Describe the role, functions and status of the marketing department in the organization.

ii. Its strengths and shortcomings as perceived by you

iii.  Recommendations to improve the organization.
