COOLING WATER MICROBIOCIDE

DESCRIPTION AND USE

FORMULA DL1543 is a highly concentrated blend of glutaraldehyde and a quaternary ammonium compound for use as a microbiocide in air washers, recirculating cooling and process water systems, industrial scrubbing systems, industrial wastewater systems and heat transfer systems including hydrostatic sterilizers and retorts, and pasteurizers and warmers. The product functions to kill these microorganisms by reacting with the cell wall. Thus, it possesses many unique features when compared to other materials:

  • Glutaraldehyde is very effective over a broad spectrum of organisms; particularly slime forming bacteria and sulfate reducing bacteria. The quaternary ammonium compound aids slime penetration and algae control.
  • Aqueous solution is relatively safe to handle and is easily diluted and mixed when treating water.
  • Unlike most nonoxidizing microbiocides, it will function to clean up a biologically fouled system.
  • Functions over a wide pH range (6.0-9.5) and most rapidly at pH 8.5 - 9.5. Will NOT react with the wide range of inhibitors and anionic dispersants used in modern cooling water treatment.
  • It is surface active to aid slime penetration. May cause some foaming in treated systems.

CHEMICAL FEEDING AND CONTROL

When a recirculating water system is noticeably fouled, FORMULA DL1543 should be slug dosed to establish a concentration of 50100 ppm actives (i.e. 3.87.5 fl. ozs DL-1543/100 gals. contained water). Once control is evident, a dosage of 2050 ppm actives (1.53.8 fl. ozs DL-1543/100 gals.) twice weekly will normally maintain control unless unusual conditions develop. SAFETY AND HANDLING

FORMULA DL1543 may be toxic by ingestion. DO NOT TAKE INTERNALLY. If ingested, do not induce vomiting. Do not give anything to drink. GET IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION. Contact with eyes causes severe irritation or burns and irreversible eye damage. If eyes are contacted, immediately flush with clear water for 30 minutes and get medical attention. VAPOR is irritating to respiratory tract. If skin is contacted, immediately wash with soap and water. Change and launder contaminated clothing before reuse. PACKAGING

FORMULA DL1543 is packaged in 55, 30, and 15, gallon, non-returnable plastic drums and5 & 6 gallon non-returnable plastic pails.
