“PLEASE PACK OUT WHAT YOU PACK IN”. USE YOUR BEAR/WILDLIFE SENSE.
If you encounter a bear on a trail, let it know you are there by talking aloud. If the bear continues to walk towards you, back up and find a section of trail where you can get well off the trail and let the bear pass you. Keep pets on a leash! Black bears have the right of way!
Utilize food caches where provided. No cougars sighted so far this year but they are in the area. Water available at number of locations but all water should be boiled, treated, or filtered. Use care on the access road and watch for logging trucks. Lock all vehicles and remove valuables.
Mt. St. Patrick - Lowrie Bay route receives minimal maintenance. Beyond Mt. St. Patrick visitors should be equipped with topo map and compass and be totally self-sufficient.
NOTE:
  1. There is no longer a campsite, hut or pit toilet at Donaldson Farm.
  2. There is now a pit toilet at Guise Bay and Fisherman River.
  3. The Federal Government dismantled the boardwalk and suspension bridges between the lighthouse and foghorn at the Cape itself.

Bear Safety

  • Never approach or feed bears.
  • If you have an encounter with a bear, please leave the area immediately and report it.
  • Obey all park regulations, stay on designated trails and comply with posted warnings.
  • Bear pepper sprays have been effective in deterring some bear attacks. However, do not use them as a substitute for safe practices in bear country. Avoidance is still your best bet.
