REQUIRED WORK / ASSIGNMENTS:

1.Each day, there will be a “Question Of The Day” written on the whiteboard at the front of the room. At the beginning of each class period you are to take your QOD sheet from the class folder, write thenumberof the QOD and theanswer. These will be collected every day in a folder on the lab table at the front of the room. You must complete the QODs for days that you are absent.

2.Worksheets and other homework will typically be due at the beginning of the class on the date due. Late homework policy is listed below.

3.A separate folder or spiral notebook to hold notes and assignments is expected for this class.

4.Book assignments are typically assigned as we cover the sections and then collected at the end of the chapter.

TURNING IN ASSIGNMENTS: To receive full credit, the assignment must be turned in at the beginning of the class period on the due date or earlier! Any assignment turned in during class after I’ve collected them will be penalized 1 point. 1 or 2 days late will be marked down 20%. Late work more than 2 days late and up to the date when we finish the following chapter will be marked down 50%. Late work more than 1 chapter late will NOT be accepted (Except for guided notes sheets and QODs for ½ credit.)!! Assignments will be collected in the tray on the bookcase at the end of the lab table.

*EXTRA CREDIT: By turning in or earning extra credit, a student may raise each of his / her nine weeks grade a maximum of 8%. The following is the main way to earn extra credit: writing newspaper, magazine, topic summaries, or research papers on any Earth Science topic covered that semester. You will earn 2 points for each page (one sided) turned in.

TEST RETAKE OPTION: Each 9 weeks grading period, students will be given the opportunity to retake one test of his/her choosing. The test must be retaken during Raider Hour in the ARC room.

ABSENCE FROM CLASS

1.It is the student's responsibility to ask for missed work. Ask for missed work before or after class, not during class, unless you have free time to work.

2. Work collected during pre-arranged absences is due the first day you come back.

3. A listing of notes and assignments will be listed on the website listed at the top of the page. Click on the “Homework” icon next to the appropriate class period to view what occurred and what assignments were given for a particular day. Click on the “Homework Help” icon to view the QODs and the notes from the current chapter. A link to the quotes can also be found at the top of this page.

RULES FOR CLASS CONDUCT

1. Don't talk when I'm talking. (My biggest pet peeve!)

2. Stay awake! No sleeping is allowed.

3. Eat and drink in the cafeteria. Only regular water is allowed in the classroom.

4. Purses, clothing, and bags should remain under the desk at all times. Only string bags are allowed (no backpacks).

5. As per school policy, no electronic devices are to be used or visible (other than Chromebooks) for any reason once class starts (cell phones, ear buds, mp3 player, etc).

6. All other school rules apply as well.

DISCIPLINARY CONSEQUENCES

I will give two warnings before issuing discipline for minor offenses. Major offenses (such as, but not limited to: vandalism, cheating, swearing, fighting, cell phone use) may result in immediate discipline in the form of either a teacher detention or referral to the Deans' Office.

RESTROOM PASSES / LOCKER PASSES / TARDIES

You must be in the classroom and heading towards your seat when the final tardy bell rings. Locker passes will typically NOT be given. If you forget your assignment it will be considered late or you can take a tardy to go get it. Bathroom passes will be limited to only if you cannot wait until the passing period to use the bathroom. If excessive bathroom use occurs, bathroom passes might not be given in the future!!

YOU MUST LEGIBLY SIGN OUT AND SIGN IN ON THE SHEET ON THE CORNER OF MY DESK WHEN LEAVING THE CLASSROOM!
