Interested in a Career in Health Care!

Teachers: How to facilitate the contest:

1.  Show the videos [Healthcare for Me in the IE Trailer Reach Out YouTube page. https://youtu.be/8Oo1p5zjmPU. These short videos will provide a context for introducing the poster contest.

2.  Announce the poster contest and beginning steps

3.  Make students aware of the abstract due date.

Must receive approval to enter the poster by January 18th, 2016

4.  Ensure that students are aware of the guidelines and the messaging of the poster.

5.  Monitor the progress of the poster development

The main focus of this poster contest should express your dream position in the Inland Empire within a health care clinic, facility, hospital, or office. For example, nurse (LVN, RN), nurse practitioner, psychologist, physician, physical therapist, physician’s assistant, dentist, dental technician, dental assistant (or hygienist), nutritionist, kinesiology doctor-therapist-chiropractor, athletic sports trainer, ultra sound or radiology technician. The emphasis is staying here in the Inland Empire to serve your own community.

Step One: Abstract submission by November 2, 2015

We welcome abstracts (summary of your topic) for a poster presentation from all levels of students from: middle school, high school, to community college students, residing in the Inland Empire. These health care topics may include details on innovative and practical ideas in clinical practice, research, education, your dream goals of enriching and improving your community, and community enriching administration.

In the spirit of fostering a creative and thought-provoking experience for each student, posters are an individual project. Group submissions are not accepted. Please review the submission guidelines below. Feel free to submit your abstract any time before November 2nd.

Abstracts should fit on one (1) page, one-inch margins on all sides, single-spaced with approximately 300 words. Please use Times New Roman 12-point font. We recommend a structured format with the following headings:

o  Background

o  Purpose

o  Education required for dream job

o  Salary or hourly compensation that is expected with having your dream job

o  Future Goals of how you want to impact your IE community

o  Dream school or university to attend

o  Conclusions of what you may learn through this poster contest submission

STEP 2 Create the poster based on your abstract

“Health Care for ME in the IE” is the focus of our Inland Empire Poster Contest. We want to inspire and grow the Inland Empire’s awareness of the need for health care professionals and the benefit of serving in your local community with rewarding and enriching careers. Posters are due to the Azusa Pacific University Inland Empire Regional Center by 5pm on Monday, January 18th, 2016 for judging the following week. Our address is 375 W. Hospitality Lane, San Bernardino, CA 92408. (909) 888-9977. You may bring your poster into the 1st floor reception area. Please tape or staple a clean copy of your abstract to the back of your poster.

Our special judges will consist of dignified faculty and staff from the School of Nursing at Azusa Pacific University. Poster judging will take place at our Inland Empire Regional Center the week of January 20 – 25th. Winners will be announced at the 2016 Health Professions Conference. More details to come.

Benefits to students for participating in this poster contest include:

·  Ability to add poster contest participation, certificate, and approved abstract, to resume;

·  Opportunities to network with students, faculty, staff, practicing nurses and health care professionals from the Inland Empire community about their projects;

·  Opportunity to win a cash prize!

The goals for the Poster Contest are:

·  Explore future career paths in health care

·  Encourage excellence in students

·  Provide networking opportunities among students and health care professionals

·  Provide a forum for students in the community to present their work

·  Provide an opportunity for students to discuss chosen dream career with health care and academic professionals.

·  Emphasize the need to grow our own health professionals

o  Please use Poster Foam Board Size 24 x 36

o  Posters should consist of your dream job, thoughts, ideas, and future goals; for example, “How Do You Want to Impact Your Community in the field of Health Care?”

o  Instructions for poster content and judging criteria are attached

·  Appropriate use of white space to avoid crowding

·  Print visible from 4 to 5 feet

·  Poster free of spelling/grammatical errors

·  Content is logically organized

·  Content clearly written and easy to understand

** Posters are NOT to be digitally produced. This is a “back-to-basics” project.

You may use colored pencil, water color, charcoal, markers, etc.

You may use computer printed text and picture, etc.
