CLUSTER / GAP / SUGGESTED ACTION / COMMENTS
Abergavenny /
- PESS to go through self reviews with schools again
- PESS to look to support more at KS3 / 4 (dependant on self reviews)
- PESS to link with 5x60 – Dance and AA (Adventurous Activity)
- Dragon Sport – Athletics exit routes
- Dragon Sport - Gap in transition from KS2 – 3
- Dragon sport - Gap in transition from School extra curricular to Community exit routes
- 5x60: Link with PESS for Dance and AA
- 5x60: Links to community exit routes lacking
- AA on 5x60 audit – use of Gilwern centre a possibility – School not sure, confident to use / take children of site!
- Possibility to link outside of LA for community exit routes (Cardiff Surf example used)
- Latent demand shown for Athletics but lack of LA community athletics club (only Crickhowell & Gilwern road running club! – not at present appropriate for 7-11 yr olds)
- Possibility of outreach / stepping stone - using the park using orienteering set up, and also possibility of brining in staff from Gilwern to the comp as bridging gap!
Monmouth /
- Dragon sport – Community links required for Athletics, netball, football, golf.
- Transition between KS2 – 3 (dragon into 5x60 –at 5x60 offer 80% new activity, 20% consistent activity from what they have done at primary school)
- 5x60 – exit routes KS3 – community required.
- PESS self reviews re-do
Chepstow /
- Dragon sports need to be added to cluster map before any gaps can be highlighted!!
- Look at activities that PESS and Dragon are doing to forsee links to 5x60 audit when done!!
- Leadership – as mentioned in other clusters (need process and agreement between school to train and AYP programmes to deploy!
- Tom to add dragon sports to map and re-visit to look for gaps.
Caldicot /
- Dragon Sport exit routes required for Athletics, hockey, football, tennis
- Look at what sports from dragon sport to continue into the 5x60 programme for the cluster.
General LA things to consider /
- Possibility of links with neighbouring LA’s to create a young peoples community athletics outlet. (Cwmbran, Newport etc – possibility of satellite clubs back into Monmouthshire)
- Continuity between programmes – especially Dragon sport – 5x60. need to look at what the most popular dragon sports are for the clusters to make sure that they get carried into the year 7 5x60 programme (transition between programmes) Transition between KS2 – 3 (dragon into 5x60 –at 5x60 offer 80% new activity, 20% consistent activity from what they have done at primary school)
- Some Dragon Sport Community outlets for required for the most popular sports win the cluster
- 5x60 community club links really need developing!
- PESS needs developing at secondary level (re-doing self reviews should help this)
- School – community link work needs doing across the LA
- Wider development work (looking at activities outside of Dragon etc – how do or should they fit in? (Go ride - cycling example)
- Leadership – schools to take the lead in delivering the courses – needs process developed as to what happens from school – deployment / use by AYP team!
- School club & link to community club should be developed hand in hand (community appears to be coming second or not at all!!)
