Away at Oceania
Week # 1 June 11th – June 15th
Dear Campers,
Hey, Mates! Welcome to Oakridge Summer Camp! We are excited that you will be joining us for session #1: “Away at Oceania”. The camp staff has planned a week that is full of adventure and entertainment as we visit the smallest continent. Campers will discover that Oceania is one of the most diverse and fascinating areas of the planet.
On Monday, we will enjoy a journey to the “bush down under”. Campers will participate in Kangaroo Kapers, a scavenger hunt through Oakridge’s own nature walk. Big Al will bring us clues about his travel plans as we will begin following him through the continent.
On Tuesday, we will all participate in a swim at the Great Barrier Reef! 3 and 4 year olds and kindergarteners will visit the east beach on the playground and 1st–4th graders will go south to Mrs. G’s cove! Everyone needs to bring a bathing suit and towel. Where will Big Al be today? There’s a rumor that a secret oceanography lab has gotten his attention. We’ll all look for it and do some ocean science!
On Wednesday, campers will have an exciting game day and participate in the Oakridge Boomerang Throw! Everyone will learn how to make a boomerang. Who will be the Champion? Also, each camper in 1st-4th grade should dress in his or her favorite hiking gear. We will be going on an excursion to Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge while 3 and 4 year olds and Kindergartenwill enjoy an “Ocean of Fun” program. All campers can come in costume as one of Oceania’s famous animals. Just add some ears, whiskers, tail or webbed feet. We’ll also have face painting to help your animal disguise!
On Thursday,Campers will appear in a talent festival fashioned after the local tribes of New Guinea. There will be dancing, singing and maybe a little magic! So, bring your talent and be an Aussie star! I wonder if Big Al will appear? Everyone will swim so bring your swimsuit and towel as we travel back to the Great Barrier Reef.
On Friday, we will look forward to “Aborigine Trivia” as campers seek out answers to native facts and figures about Oceania and the surrounding areas. Also, each camper in 1st–4th grade will be traveling “down under” to Rainforest Café for lunch. 3 and 4 year olds and Kindergartenwill enjoy and movie on the big screen with Nemo and the clown fish of the Coral Sea! Will we see Big Al exploring in the Bush or Great Coral Reef?
Each day will offer campers arts and crafts, singing, group games and much, much more. Remember to bring a lunch and drink each day exceptFriday. Snacks will be served in the morning and afternoon.
We’ll see you bright and early Monday morning, June 11. Camp begins at 9 am and ends at 3:30 pm. You can drop your child off in the carpool line beginning at 8:45 am. Counselors will assist them out of the car and into the building. You may walk them into the building if you wish. Extended Day opens at 8:00 am and closes at 5:30 pm. Please walk campers into the building if they come for morning Extended Day.
