AWARDS AND DECORATIONS

Awards and Decorations, which are directed by Army Regulations, are presented to deserving individuals for achievements and for performing certain assignments and tasks as well. Most awards will be presented at the end of the school year, at the military awards ceremony. Certain awards may, however be “impact” awards and decorations, and will presented after a “Ribbon Request” form is turned in and approved by the appropriate staff members. The relative rank of each award, as well as the rank is worn on the uniform on the top row of ribbons, on the wearer’s right. (Above left pocket.)

Awarded Annually (Military Awards) to one cadet who

exhibits the highest degree of excellence in scholastics.

N-1-2Academic Excellence Award16

Awarded Annually (Military Awards) to one cadet in each

LET year for maintaining highest school academic grades.

N-1-3Academic Achievement Ribbon17

Awarded annually (Military Awards) to those cadets

maintaining a grade “A” in all academic subjects.

N-1-4Perfect Attendance Ribbon18

Any cadet: awarded annually during Awards Night to

a cadet with outstanding attendance records for the year.

N-1-5Student Government Ribbon19

Any cadet: awarded to cadets elected to student government

offices.

N-1-6LET Service Ribbon20

Any cadet; awarded to cadets successfully completing

the first quarter of training each LET year.

N-1-7Scholastic Excellence21

Any cadet: awarded annually (Military Awards) to the

cadets having the highest overall grade average in JROTC

in his/her LET year.

N-1-8Best Drilled Platoon Ribbon22

Any cadet: awarded to members of the platoon judged

“best” during platoon competition.

Approving authority: SAI or AI.

N-1-9MICadet23

Any LET – 1 awarded annually (Military Awards) to those

cadets who are most improved during the course of the year.

N-1-10JROTC Spirit Ribbon24

Any cadet: awarded to those cadets who participate in

at least 3 JROTC activities, i.e., Cannon Details, Color/Honor

Guard, etc.

N-2-1Varsity Athletic/Band Ribbon25

Any cadet: awarded to those cadets who participate in school

sports programs. This includes Varsity, Junior Varsity, or

freshman teams. This includes the JROTC teams.

Approving Authority: SAI, AI, and Team Commander

N-2-2Physical Fitness Ribbon26

Any cadet: awarded to cadets who maintain physical fitness.

Male cadets must run one mile in 6:50 or less. Females in

7:50 or less.

N-2-3Physical Readiness Ribbon27

Any cadet: awarded quarterly to cadets who score in the

top 10% during cadet challenge competition.

N-2-4Physical Exercise Competition Ribbon28

Any Raider: Awarded annually to those cadets that compete

in a Raider Challenge.

Awarded to Cadets that complete a full season on a JV athletic team.

Any cadet: awarded annually (Military Awards) to recommended

Cadets from the LET 1 level.

Any cadet: awarded annually (Military Awards) to those cadets

who have demonstrated an exceptionally high degree of leadership,

academic achievement, and performance of duty.

N-3-3Proficiency Ribbon32

Any cadet: awarded annually (Military Awards) to those cadets

who have demonstrated an exceptionally high degree of leadership,

academic achievement, and performance of duty.

N-3-4Drill Team Ribbon33

Any cadet: awarded annually to members of the Drill Team.

Approving Authority: Drill Team Commander

N-3-5Orienteering Ribbon34

Any cadet: awarded to cadets who complete successfully in

orienteering competition.

Approving Authority: SAI or AI

N-3-6Color, Honor, and Saber Guard Ribbon35

Any cadet: awarded to cadets who participate in at least 3 Color

Guards, Honor Guards, or 1 Saber detail.

N-3-7Rifle Team Ribbon36

Any cadet: awarded annually to cadets who make the Rifle Team.

Approving Authority: Rifle Team Commander

N-3-8Adventure Training Ribbon37

Any cadet: awarded annually who participate in adventure training

Activities, such as Appalachian Trail or JROTC Summer Camp. Or five different adventure training day trips.

N-3-9Commendation Ribbon38

Any cadet: awarded annually (Military Awards) to any cadet whose

performance exceptionally exceeds that expected of a cadet of

his/her grade and experience.

N-3-10Good Conduct Ribbon39

Any cadet: awarded annually (Military Awards) to those cadets

who have demonstrated outstanding conduct and participation.

N-3-11Summer Camp Participation Ribbon40

Any cadet: awarded annually to those cadets who participate

in JROTC summer activities such as the Appalachian Trail

or JROTC Summer Camp.

N-3-12Funeral Ribbon41

Any cadet: awarded to cadets who participate in at least 3 funeral

details.

Approving Authority: N/A

N-3-13Blood Donor Ribbon42

Any cadet: who donates blood during the school blood drives. Or

can show proof of giving blood at another location.

N-3-14Best Drilled Cadet Ribbon43

Any cadet: awarded to the top ten cadets selected as “Best Drilled”

during annual cadet competitions.

Approving Authority: SAI or AI

N-3-15Red Cross/CPR Ribbon44

Awarded to any cadet who has successfully completed the Red

Cross/CPR program and award CPR certificate.

N-4-1Parade Ribbon45

Any cadet: awarded to the cadets that participate in local community

parades, i.e., Veteran’s Day, Memorial Day, etc.

N-4-2Recruiting Ribbon46

Any cadet: awarded to cadets that recruit students into the JROTC

program. Included are cadets that participate in middle school

orientation trips. (Use special form)

N-4-3Raider Ribbon47

Any cadet: awarded to those cadets who make the Raider Team.

Approving Authority: Raider Commander

N-4-4Best Cadet Officer Ribbon48

Any cadet officer: awarded to the five most outstanding cadet

officers of the year, as determined by the SAI, AI’s, and selected

cadet officers.

N-4-5Best Cadet NCO Ribbon49

Any cadet NCO: awarded to the five most outstanding cadet

noncommissioned officer of the year, as selected by the SAI, AI’s,

and selected cadet officers.

N-4-6Service Learning Ribbon/Community Affaires50

Awarded annually to cadets who participate in service learning

projects.

N-4-7Excellent Staff Performance Ribbon51

Awarded annually (Military Awards) to recommended staff

members.

4. Crests, Wreaths, Berets, Cords, and Badges

Pin # Description and Criteria

  1. Cadet Challenge Crest*

Presented to any cadet who receives 85% or higher on all events during Cadet Challenge.

  1. Band Crest *

Present to: Cadets that are current members of the band.

  1. Color Guard Crest*

Present to: Cadets who participated in at least three Color Guards or Color Guard competitions.

  1. Honor Guard Crest*

Present to: Cadets who participated in at least five Honor Guards at Formal occasions

  1. Drill Team Crest*

Present to: Cadets that are members of the Drill Team and have participated in at least one drill competition.

  1. Rifle Team Crest*

Presented to: Cadets that are members of the Rifle Team, have participated in at least one competition, and have scored at least 200 of 300 possible points during qualification firing.

  1. Raider Crest*

Present to: Cadet who have competed or attended two Raider camp.

  1. Summer CampCrest

Present to: Cadets that have participated and completed successfully Summer Camp.

  1. Appalachian TrailCrest

Present to: Cadets that have participated and completed successfully Appalachian Trail.

  1. Academic Crest

Awarded Quarterly to: Cadets with GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  1. Academic Achievement Insignia. (Wreath)

Presented to: Awarded to annually (Military Awards) to top 10% of students in each year of JROTC, based upon grades earned in military subjects.

  1. Honor Roll Gold Cord*

Presented to: Awarded each semester to all cadets that have GPAs of 3.5 or higher. Must be returned by the end of the quarter.

Approving Authority: SAI, AI, or attached copy of a quarterly report card.

m.Rifle Team Cord*

Presented to: Cadets that are current members of the Rifle Team, have participated in at least one competition, and have scored 220 and above.

Approving Authority: Rifle Team Commander

  1. Drill Team Cord*

Presented to: Cadets that are current members of the Drill Team and have participated in at least one drill competition.

Approving Authority: Drill Team Commander

  1. Raider Cord*

Presented to: Cadets that are currently on the Raider Team, and competed in two Raider events.

  1. Rifle Team Beret*

Presented to: Cadets that are current members of the Rifle Team, and have participated in at least three competitions.

  1. Drill Team Beret*

Presented to: Cadets that are current members of the Drill Team and have participated in at least one drill competition or have shown outstanding leadership and skill.

  1. Raider Beret*

Presented to: Cadets that are current members of the Raider Team and have been in the Raider program for more than one semester. The cadets are than selected by the Raider team coach after performing a skills test.

  1. Marksmanship Qualification Badge – Marksman

Presented to: Cadets who score at least 150 points of a possible 300 points during qualification firing or on the Rifle Team.

Approving Authority: SAI, AI, or Rifle Team Commander

  1. Marksmanship Qualification Badge – Sharpshooter

Presented to: Cadets who score at least 175 of a possible 300 points during qualification firing or on the Rifle Team.

Approving Authority: SAI, AI, or Rifle Team Commander

  1. Marksmanship Qualification Badge – Expert

Presented to: Cadets who score at least 200 points of a possible 300 points during qualifications firing or on the Rifle Team.
