QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q1.Project completion is between Sept 6, 2016 and Dec 1st. Is that just for the base bid and additional time will be allowed for the alternate or do you want all the work finished this year?

A1: The scheduled dates for the project duration were changed as part of Addendum #1as indicated in the revision for Section 00020 Invitation For Bid, page 00020-1, middle of the page. The additional alternate bid item work shall be completed within the sametime period listed with the only exception of the final pavement.Only final pavement may be allowed beyond May 01, 2017.

Q2:The service connection plan shows plastic pipe with a tracer wire wrapped around it. It doesn’t appear to me that this can be installed using a trenchless method. I would think that copper pipe installed by using a mole would be more appropriate for a trenchless rehabilitation project. The copper would be traceable on its own.

A2:Copper pipe shall not be used. All buildings service connections shall beplastic pipe as specified. The tracer wire shall be attached to the plastic pipe if a mole is used.

Q3.It looks like the temporary bypass piping is only on one side of the street but there arehomes connected to the main on both sides. I would recommend adding bypass toother side of the street as well. Running hoses across the street would not be a good option.

A3.See increased quantity for 2” Temporary Water in Addendum #2, Attachment A, Form of General Bid. See also Addendum 2, Page 1,Drawing Sheet Notes, regarding temporary bypass water main for the southern side of the street.

Q4.How many men are required for the night crew?

A4.No requirements in Specs.

Q5.The specs and detail 1 reference infrared paving. Specs: Page 01025-7 Paragraph 1.10A5. The detailed drawings do not show infrared paving. Is infrared paving required and if so, how will it be paid for?

A5.Infrared pavement not required for this project. Refer to Specification Section 02501 for pavement requirements.

Q6.The specification mentions the TV inspection of other lines. Where are these other lines located?

A6.This TV inspection refers to determining the limits of the asbestos cement pipe on West Main St at LaFrance Ave, west of STA 00+00.

Q7.Is a service saddle required for service line replacements?

A7.See Specification Section 02641, Page 3, Par. 2.04.B. Service saddles are required for all services off of 8” main, and on 2” services off of 12” main.

Q8.Will the town provide a staging area for our equipment and material?

A7.No staging area will be provided by the town.

Q8.In detail 1 & 2 it shows the mill and overlay of half the road. There does not seem to be a bid item for this work. The details also show different paving methods. Which one is required? Please clarify.

A8.There is no half road pavement required. Refer to Specification Section 02501 and Detail No. 2 for pavement requirements.

Q9.On page 00300-3 Item 3a you have N/A. Should we put a price per foot with no total or just leave the whole item blank? There are a few other items like that too.Item 5D has a quantity of 0. Do we enter a unit price?

A9.If a bid item is listed as N/A, it is not applicable to this project, so no unit price or total price is necessary. If a bid quantity is listed as 0 for any bid item, a unit price should be provided, which is the same unit price of the corresponding bid item in either the base or alternate bid table. More clarification for both of these questions has been provided on the attached revised Bid Form.
