Award-winning American Mountain Theater Debuts 5th Season April 1

Elkins, W.Va.– American Mountain Theater, building on the success that brought it West Virginia’s coveted “Mountain State Award” for tourism excellence, opens its exciting fifth season Friday, April 1.

Throughout April, Premier 2-Hour Shows are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. every Friday and Saturday, with additional performances added on Thursdays in May. Starting in June shows are scheduled every Wednesday - Saturday evening, and when the cast reaches October, performances are scheduled six days a week.

Also beginning in May will be AMT's third annual Southern Gospel Concert Series. Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver kick off an expanded schedule on May 1, with shows on select Sundays through October. The list includes nationally known acts such as Jeff and Sheri Easter, the Isaacs, and the Dove Brothers, plus many more.

All performances are at AMT’s 527-seat facility in the historic Elkins Railyard. Doors open for seating an hour before showtime.

“As the Division of Tourism confirmed last year with the Mountain State Award, American Mountain Theater istruly something special,” said AMT President and Producer Kenny Sexton. “We’re excited to start another fantastic season with more outstanding features than ever before. This year, you’ll see our multi-talented cast showcased in new ways you haven’t seen.”

AMT provides an experience that is unique in West Virginia. The two-hour, Branson-style show includes toe-tapping, up-tempo music, hilarious comedy sketches, first-class impersonations, inspirational ballads and patriotic tunes.

Whether you like country, bluegrass, pop or gospel, the family-friendly show has something for you. You also might see a special guest such as “Elvis” show up to do a favorite song.

As always, the American Mountain Theater promises the “Freshest Sound in the Mountains,” and new packaging options allow you to see even more of the beautiful Potomac Highlands region before or after taking in a show.

With just one phone call to AMT at 1-800-943-3670, you can take care of lodging, meals, and additional activities such as a scenic trade ride.

“We’re very pleased with the economic impact the American Mountain Theater makes on Elkins, Randolph County and the entire region,” Sexton said. “We’re a premier destination for group tours from around the country, and that helps hotels, restaurants and other attractions. We appreciate the support of our partners and are glad to be a significant part of the state’s tourism economy.”

Even with the tourism industry in many areas affected negatively by the national economic downturn, AMT again saw an increase during 2010. That marks the third consecutive year of growth, creating a local economic impact of more than $5 million, with guests coming from 43 states and multiple foreign countries.

A large portion of that comes from the more than 300 motorcoach visits, but local residents, families and smaller groups are guaranteed to have a good time as well.

In addition to the 2-Hour Premier Show and the Southern Gospel Concert Series, AMT offers a one-hour History of American Music Show on select dates. Visit the website at for details and the full schedule.

Visitors also can purchase tickets online through AMT’s website. Apparel, souvenirs, CDs and DVDs also are available through the site, which was redesigned in 2010.

In addition to individual show tickets, $75 season passes are available that allow fans to attend as many Premier 2-Hour and History of American Music Shows as they would like.
