INTENTION
The Award of Excellence is given annually as formal recognition for extraordinary contribution to the success of Red DeerCollege through support of learning, community involvement, innovation, service provision, academic scholarship, or teaching. It is given for contributions that are outside the employee’s specific job expectations that exemplify College values, and that leave a lasting legacy in the College, in the Community, or in the employee’s profession/field-of-expertise.
ELIGIBILITY
- AllRed DeerCollege employees.
THE AWARD
- A maximum of three awards are presented annually.
- The recipients will receive a Certificate of Recognition and a cash award of $1,000.00 (net)
NOMINATORS
- Red DeerCollege employees, students, alumni, and community members can nominate a Red DeerCollege employee for an Award of Excellence.
NOMINATION PACKAGE AND PROCESS
- Each confidential nomination package should include:

- Nomination packages must be submitted to the Human Resources Department (Rm. 2204) at Red Deer College no later than May 15th.
SCREENING AND SELECTION PROCEDURES
1) TheAssociate Vice President, Human Resourceswill establish an independent selection committee and will act as, or designate, the Chair of the Committee.
a) Composition of the Committee will include up to two representatives from each of FARDC, CUPE, AUPE, one representative from the Students’ Association, and one additional administration/exempt staff member, inaddition to the Associate Vice President, Human Resources.
b) Terms of office for the Selection Committee members will be two year terms but will be staggered so that only half of the committee will be replaced each year.
2)The Committee will screen eligible nominations and will investigate nominations as to the impact on and significance to the values of Red DeerCollege. The Committee will interview nominators, candidates, the candidate’s supervisor, peers and/or other individuals as required, in order to further validate or expand on information contained within the nomination package.
3)The Committee will then recommend up to three award recipients to the President of Red Deer College.
4)The awards will be presented by the President at the Fall Warm-up event.

Document the candidate’s specific contributions and accomplishments that provide support for the nomination. This information must be held in strict confidence and must not be distributed to anyone, other than the Selection Committee, without the express consent of the President of Red Deer College.
Three or more letters of support (letters should not exceed one page in length)
Letters should give specific examples and details of the candidate’s extraordinary contribution to the success of Red DeerCollege through support of learning, community involvement, innovation, service provision, academic scholarship, or teaching.
These letters and the content thereof must be held in strict confidence. All copies of these letters, or associated notes, electronic or otherwise, other than those held by the originator of the letters, must be destroyed once the letters have been provided to the Selection Committee.
Nominations must be received no later than May 15th.
