AVID Substitute Plans

*** Please don’t let anyone leave the classroom unless it is an absolute emergency. I have informed the students that I want them to be in class at all times. No library, Restrooms, Locker visits etc. If there is an emergency please keep the pass when they return. Thanks!

****In Case of an Emergency in the Classroom**** I don’t foresee you having any difficulties with my classes. They are all very well behaved, however if something should arise health wise, etc. and you need an administrator or deputy you need to press the red button. It is located on the wall next to my computer.

Hall Duty: During the 5min in between classes you need to be standing at the door with it open. They come through the right hand door (the one away from the water fountain). This is to monitor the students in the classroom, as well as in the hallway. If there are any disturbances, an administrator or deputy is never far away. Send a student to the office for help/press the red button, if something happens when no one else is around.

Field Trip or T-Shirt Money: Some of my students will need to turn in money for one of those two things. Please check that they have the $$ on them with the require form. They can give them $$ during the first 5 minutes of each class period to Mrs. Martin in room 307. Just make sure they have a pass to her class. Please only send them at the beginning of the period! Thank you!

Monday- Time Management

Bell Ringer: Write Question and complete answer in learning log!

Lesson: Pass out the Time Management PPT slides. Please review the slides with the students. They will read and take Cornell Notes over the article “25 Ways to Get the Most Out of Now”. They should have a full page (front and back) of notes, if this is done properly. If they are writing 3-5 pages of notes, they need to summarize and be far more concise! They need to complete their questions and 3-5 sentence summary. They may do this for homework if needed.

This passage should take them the whole period. They may read and complete their passages in their groups. If they aren’t being productive then you can have them do it individually.

Tuesday- Time Management

Bell Ringer: Write Question and complete answer in learning log!

Lesson: They will review their notes. In their small groups, they will be given a white sheet or paper and pencil box. The helpers know where the pencil boxes are. They will create the posters indicated on the last slide of the time management PPT.

Give them 25minutes to create their poster. Then each group will need to go up to the front of them room and share their poster. Each group member should share 3-4 tips. It should not just be one person sharing.

Wednesday- Decide What You Want

Bell Ringer: Write Question and complete answer in learning log!

Lesson: Review the slides with the students. Their activity for today will be the bucket list. Review the directions and hand out the booklet pages. The helpers know where the scissors are in the room. I have left one booklet already assembled, so you know how to do it as well. This should take them the whole period to appropriately fill out.

Thursday- BelieveIt’s Possible

Bell Ringer: Write Question and complete answer in learning log!

Lesson: Review the slides with the students. Have them complete their quickwrite in their learning log spiral notebook as well. After discussing with the slides with the class, you will hit the Activity Cards slides. You will hand out one stack to each group. I have 8 stacks paper clipped together. Give the students 15 minutes to pick cards and discuss the topics. Pick the cards back up for the next class.

Next hand out the “Believe It’s Possible” handout. The students will have the rest of the period to fill out their handout independently.

Friday- Essay Writing

Bell Ringer: Write Question and complete answer in learning log!

Lesson: Hand out the writing prompt for the problem solving essay. Review the directions and requirements. The students will have the whole period to plan their essay using a tree map, write their essay and edit. The essay is due at the end of the period! You will need to pick up the essay prompt slips to redistribute to the next class period.
