Pilot Environment Protection Act Authorised Officer Fundamentals Course for Local Government Officers

This is a great opportunity for local government staff to bolster their knowledge and/or learn new things about being an authorised officer and tackling illegal dumping under the Environment Protection Act. The learned skills will be transferrable to all aspects of regulation.

Overall Timing on Day

Course will commence at 9.00 a.m. sharp and conclude by 5.00 p.m.

Lunch break will be 30 minutes each day at 12.00 p.m. approx.

Morning and afternoon tea will scheduled attimes to suit training.

Course Content

The course content has been developed via the EPA Authorised Officer Training Program and in response to local government needs with an emphasis on illegal dumping issues. The topics chosen were considered as being essential to give staffa better understanding of their role and assist them in their day to day work.

The Course will be presented by Tony Williams who has been with the Investigations and Tactical Support Branch (ITSB) of The South Australian EPA since 2005. Tony is the Principal Compliance and Audit officer focussing on industry auditing and was previously the Team Leader of the Illegal Dumping Unit. The ITSB deals with serious breaches of the EP Act and provides support to all areas of the EPA in relation to compliance and enforcement. Prior to the EPA, Tony served as a South Australian Police Officer in uniform before moving to Metropolitan Criminal Investigations Branch, Major and Organised Crime Taskforce as a Detective. Tony has investigated the full spectrum of criminal offences from theft to murder and has significant experience in presenting both oral and physical evidence to criminal Courts.

Tony has an engaging and practical presentation style and brings a wealth of real world enforcement experience that is insightful, direct and motivational.
