Procedures for Prepayment and Meal Charges are stated on the back.

Federal regulations prohibit the giving of free meals to students who do not qualify for free meals.

Apply at any time in the school year for free or reduced meals. The applications are at each school, on-line, and at the Central Office in Verona. We can also mail an application to your home. Call 540-245-5127 or 540-245-5159 for a meal application.

Procedures for Meal Charges

  • It is the parent’s responsibility to keep track of their child’s account balance. A meal charge is defined as a short-term loan for a student to eat because they have forgotten or lost money for that day.
  • Parents are welcome to call their child’s school cafeteria to obtain outstanding charges/credits. A print-out of account activity will be provided upon request.
  • Parents may request that their child not be allowed to charge “extras” or a la carte items. When the set limit for charges has been exceeded, the school may choose to offer the student an alternative meal.
  • An alternative meal is the student’s choice of a peanut butter & jelly or cheese sandwich; a choice of milk or juice is also provided.
  • Meals will always be provided to pre-primary and any handicapped student who may be unable to take full responsibility for meal money.
  • During the last 30 days of the school year, all charges may be stopped so that outstanding balances can be collected. High schools may stop charges earlier in the spring semester. Make sure that your child has cash to pay for meals or has a packed meal from home. If not, an alternative meal will be offered.

Procedures for Prepayment

  • Prepayments can be paid for any given period of time: a day, a week, a month, or even the entire school year.
  • The chart does not reflect additional funds needed for extra milk or the purchase of a la carte food items. Any amount of money can be placed in the individual meal account for your child(ren).
  • Put prepayment money in an envelope with the student’s name and account number on the envelope.
  • Any check returned due to insufficient funds (NSF) may accrue multiple penalty fees.
  • Prepayments can be mailed directly to the school to the attention of the school nutrition manager.
  • Prepayments can also be made on-line. Go to the Augusta County Schools’ website at
  • No cash will be returned to a student who presents a check for meal prepayment.

The Nutrition Staff of Augusta County Schools strive to provide healthy and nutritious meals for all students to help them perform their best in the learning environment. As parents, we encourage you to visit the school cafeteria and enjoy a lunch or breakfast with your child. We welcome your feedback on the meals and menu.
