Diane detailed Club plans to participate in the Susan Byrne Center Clean-up project on Thursday, August 27. This is an annual District project. A bus will leave Oak Leaf Manor North at 4:30pm and will return at approximately 8:30pm. A very nice lunch is served before the cleaning begins. There are many chores to be done. Some are not very strenuous, such as dusting the folding chairs. While others are more challenging, such as scaling the tall ladder and cleaning the blades on the ceiling fans. This task has been handled well by Ekreg Llerrad, of our Club in the past. Almost every club in the District was represented at last year’s clean-up. Our Club received credit for 8 volunteers which included the bus driver. We would like to fill the bus with 20 workers this year.

Program: Tim Wentworth retired former owner

of Wentworth Publishing, told of a breakfast

program which began fourteen years ago with a handful of homeless men and has grown to a weekly event which provides breakfast for nearly 100 persons each week at 8:00 am on Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lancaster. Many homeless families are included in the count each week. The program is lay volunteer driven. Approximately 20 church members acquire and prepare the meal. Cosco’s and Darrenkamp Foods contribute the various food items served at the breakfast. Many of the participants live at the Water Street Mission.

Several years ago, Tim and a fellow parishioner noted that many of the persons who attended the breakfast were also interested in the spiritual side of life. Tim and his colleague now present a short spiritual program each Sunday and nearly 50% of the participants stay for this portion of the breakfast program.

Tim is clearly a person dedicated to ‘service above self’

The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 a.m.
