DiscDogathon Event Brief Description
Freestyle:
A choreographed 2-minute routine set to music, using 5 discs, performing a variety of tricks and maneuvers. The format will be judged using the Skyhoundz PAWS Scoring System with a maximum of 40 points or 10 points within each of the following four categories: Presentation, Athleticism, Wow Factor, and Success.Distance/Accuracy:
A 60-second event using 1 disc. Points are awarded for catches made within one of the 4 scoring zones based on the most trailing paw (10-20, 20-30, 30-40, & 40-50 yd.). Points are 1, 2, 3, & 5 respectively with a bonus of a ½ pt for each catch made with all paws in the air.FlyDisc Team:
The game is similar to FlyBall but with a disc, and without the hurdles. Three dogs and three handlers per team*. Each pair competes consecutively. The event is scored on a time trial basis. Time starts when 1st dog crosses the starting line. Time stops after all 3 are successful with their designated zone catch and the last of the 3 dogs passes over the start line with the disc. One pair must complete a successful 10 yd zone catch and return, the 2nd pair a 20 yd zone catch and return and the 3rd pair a 30 yd catch & return. The next dog cannot start until the previous dog returns. If a dog or handler faults, they must go to the end of the line and try again until successful. Time limit of 2 minutes. Fastest time declares the top teams.Time Trial:
A 60 sec event using 1 disc where each competitor or team will attempt to complete two 20-yard throw/catches to a canine in the shortest amount of time possible. To qualify as a successful throw, the disc must be caught by the canine beyond the 20-yard line that runs from one side of the field to the other (there are no side-boundary lines). A maximum time of one minute will be permitted. Time will stop when the canine crosses back over the start/finish line in possession of the disc after completing the required two 20-yard catches. The disc can be retrieved by the handler. Fastest time declares the top teams.* Team events will be made up of one dog/handler pair from different clubs attempting to have teams of one dog/handler from each of the three levels being able to match their abilities to the task at hand. These teams will be determined the day of the event. Make sure you have identified your appropriate level for both Toss & Fetch type events and Freestyle on the registration form, either B (Beginner), A (Intermediate), or AA (Advanced).
See more detail description of the guidelines for the formats listed above.
Clinics & Lessons - An overview of clinic choices & Lesson Schedule
Throwing–The basics of throwing including short, medium, and long distances (grips, technique, discs, etc.).
Canine Catch–The "Dog Catch" is not only a great way to put a professional finishing touch on your routine, but can also serve as a great transitional move within sequences and between tricks. Learn the basics of getting your dog comfortable being caught, building value for being in your arms, timing and release ideas, as well as more advanced moves, including catches off of flips, vaults, overs, and more. Bring high value treats and toys, as well as your favorite discs.
Vaulting–Clinician will show participants training techniques to get their dog vaulting off of different parts of their body. This is not for the weak of heart or should we say body … bring your vest (we should have some on hand for sale) and long (non-slip) shorts for this clinic.
Spit-Shine Your FreestyleRoutine–Clinician will provide you tips to add pizzazz, diversity or something unique to bring out the shine in your routine. Let’s work with your current tricks and/or routine to make it really stand out and flow!
The plan is to present all of these clinics as time allows. We will run one clinic at a time over 30 minutes to 1 hour time slots.

Tracy Custerhas been playing disc competitively with her dogs since her first competition in 2002; what started as a means to tire out a few crazy Aussies, has turned into a lifelong passion and career training disc dogs. When Tracy and her husband, Adrian, began rescuing dogs in 2001, they found that many of these dogs were being discarded due to their high energy level and exercise needs. It was a perfect fit: rescue and disc dogging! They have successfully re-homed over 100 dogs, many of whom have gone on to have amazing careers in Frisbee, Agility, and Dock Diving in homes across the U.S. Competitively, Tracy has experienced some great successes on the disc dog field, including State Titles in Indiana, Ohio, Georgia, and Kentucky, multiple wins at Major Qualifiers for AWI, Skyhoundz, UFO, and USDDN. She has qualified 10 different dogs for World Finals over the past 10 years, but her greatest success came with RaccoonJack's 2007 and 2009 USDDN Freestyle World Championships, and Courage's 2010 USDDN T/F World Championship. Tracy and her husband are greatly involved in the disc dog community, establishing the Southern Ohio Flying K9s Disc Dog Club in 2002, assisting with the St. Louis Disc Dog Club, as well as teaching and judging when time allows. Currently employed as a Dog Trainer and Performer, Tracy continues to share her passion of training Disc Dogs, Agility, and Dock Diving with the thousands of visitors and patrons of Purina Farms in Gray Summit, MO. Currently, Tracy and Adrian are owned and loved by 17 awesome dogs, and continue to rescue and foster dogs in need.
