Dear Audubon Friends,

In room 209 we learned that Lucy was 3 feet tall. And we also learned that biped means to walk on two feet. We learned that Lucy was found in Africa. And we also learned that about bullying stance, this is very important to know. We learned about Christopher Columbus proving the world is round not flat. In our class our teacher also taught us about the ancient Egypt and about what happened back then when our ancestors were alive.

Ms.Calhoun tells us that our ancestors were doing algebra in the second grade. We learned that Egypt was also called Kermit. As stated in the text, in the history book it says that almost every million years the early hominids looked different and changed. They did different things and they also almost were close to looking human, they also created different things and invented different things compared to when the other hominids were alive. Lucy’s real name was Australopithecus aphaeresis.

And we learned people like Martin Luther King Jr. said their speeches.

Handy men are the ones who make tools. Handy Man lived a little closer to our time than Lucy,

about 1.5 to 2 million years ago. Scientists have found Handy Man remains only in Africa. Homo

Erectus upright man was around longer than any other hominid group. The face of upright man

books more like modern human. Summer Hats is about jobs and it gives information about all kinds

of jobs you can get during the summer to earn money and get a job that actually fits you. “Summer

Hats” is an informational text. An informational text is an article that gives information about something.

In our class we learned about the six SIGHNPOSTS:

1.Wise words, 2.Tough questions,3.Memorable moments, 4.Aha moments, 5.AgainAgain,

6. Contrast and Contradiction.

We read a story called “Thank you Mam” by Langston Hughes. This little boy (Roger) tried to steal a purse and then the lady got him in a head lock. His face was dirty. Then Ms.Lula Bates Washington Jones took him to her house and he washed his face. And that’s all for today and we have much to learn.

One of the poems we have learned in Room #209 is:

The Confidence Pledge by Toni C. Humber

I BELIEVE IN MYSELF, I WILL STRETCH MY ABILITYS FEED MY MIND WITH NEW POSITIVE THOUGHTS AND CHALLENGE MYSELF TO REACH NEW GOALS,I WILL NOT LISTEN TO MY INNER NEGATIVE FEELINGS, I WILL NOT LET MY FEAR PREVENT ME FROM MAXIMIZING MY POTENTIAL, I WILL LET EACH DAY LEAD ME CLOSER TO GREADER-SELF CONFIDENCE,SUCCESS AND PERSONAL HAPPINESS.

Thanks go out to the tech committee; they assisted with providing students with computers that helped them with their part of the newsletter. And teaching them how to type, cut and paste their newsletter information.

Kameron Treschler, Iyesa Wade, and Justin Stephenson

We would like to thank Destiny Johnson and Jasmine Mulligan for the signpost slideshow they developed using the book “Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry” even though it is still in the works, we are expecting great things from these students.

Our next news letter will feature the second part of the Room # 209 classroom!
