Training Focus:

This one day course is designed for Teaching Assistants. The day will give you the opportunity to explore and reflect on how to raise self-esteem including your own. The course will introduce you to effective ways of communicating, skills that can enhance your work in school. For example when working with pupils who may need extra support or raising your own self confidence to help you establish and maintain effective working relationships across the whole school.

Outline of day:

  • Welcome and introductions.
  • An opportunity to look at gains from the day in relation to your role in school.
  • A chance to create a safe and effective learning environment, a model that can help to manage behaviour in the classroom in a positive way.
  • A presentation examining what affects our self-esteem.
  • Exploring a model of Self Esteem and how it can be adapted to be used with the children you work with.
  • Introduction to effective communication and assertiveness, essential life skills that enable us to communicate how we feel and deal with challenging situations and learn how to take responsibility for our own feelings and behaviours.
  • Throughout the day the focus will be on building your confidence and giving you opportunities to reflect and discuss how we can continue to raise our own self-esteem and be a role model for the children we work with.
  • Summary, evaluations and last thoughts.
