Audacity: Audio recorder/editor

To download:

1, Go to http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/.

2. Click on Windows1.2.6.

3. Click Audacity 1.2.6 installer.

4. In the pop-out box, click "Run."

5. In the Audacity Set Up Wizard. click on "Next," accept the terms, "Next," etc., until you see the "Finish" button. Audacity is now installed on your computer.

Using Audacity: Recording your voice, mixing with music and sound effects, saving and exporting a soundtrack.

Amplify (increase volume) by selecting a section (drag across). Then click “Effect” and “Amplify.”

Delete (take out a part), such as a cough or a click, by selecting and pressing the delete key or clicking the scissors.

Move or copy a part by selecting, clicking the copy icon, putting your mouse (cursor) where you want the move or copy to go on the track and clicking, and then clicking the clipboard icon.

Import music and sound effects files (.mp3 or .wav) by clicking “Project” and selecting “Import Audio.”

Browse to the folder where the file is saved. Click on the audio file and click “Open.”

The imported audio file will appear on another track under any other tracks.

Apply an effect (such as fade in, fade out, etc.) by selecting the part of the track where you want an effect. Then click “Effect” and choose the effect you want.

Save project (to be changed later) by clicking “File.” Chose “Save Project As…” Remember to give the project a file name and to save it in the folder with your other project media.

Export sound file as a .wav or .mp3 file (better -- more compressed and takes less space) for use in podcasts by clicking “File” and choosing “Export As a Wav” or "Export as MP3." Choose where to save the file and give it a file name. All tracks will be saved together as one audio file.
