Hi Chuck,

I would also like to see an exhibit that actually spells out the streets (neighborhoods) in its current state and in the proposed state, side by side. Perhaps in an excel document.

Subject: Polling place questions and concerns

For our meeting on Thursday, I would like some delineation and discussion on polling places and the changes that will be incurred by our fellow citizens. I glanced over the maps and focused a bit near my home neighborhood. I live in the 72nd district (Santa Maria Drive) and will continue to do all of my voting (Presidential, Senatorial, US Congressional, Governor, State Senators and Representatives, Mayor, and Alderman) as it is currently laid out for me under the new Plan 3. My polling center is Regan School at 2780 North Main Street and nothing changes for me.

Around the corner from me sits Zuella Drive and Judith Lane (both in 73rd) and my understanding is that with Plan 3, they will continue to have their voting (Presidential, Senatorial, US Congressional, Governor, State Senators and Representatives, and Mayor) handled at their current polling center located at Sprague School, 1443 Thomaston Avenue because they sit in the 73rd district. Assuming that Plan 3 is in enacted, for Aldermanic voting those citizens on those two streets will have their Aldermanic district residing in the 72nd (or District 2 under Plan 3 verbiage) and I assume (please correct me if I am wrong) that this will change their polling center to Regan School, 2780 North Main Street in the 72nd district (or District 2). Can you confirm my perceptions here?

If my concerns are true then for the slight statistical number improvement that was echoed during the discussion last week it now seems to me that this type of change could be a potential de-motivator for people to get out voting. We elect for Mayor and Aldermen on November 3, 2015 and it would be an illogical plan if the above assumptions are real. A voter on Zuella Drive goes to Sprague School to vote for Mayor and then has to drive to Regan School to vote for his/her Alderman, really? I hope that I am wrong but one voting center for the majority of elections and then have to go to a totally different polling center for Alderman voting will result with individuals getting frustrated and confused. This potential outcome is not what I had hoped for.

Thank You,

Chuck Pagano (Chairman)
