CHS Foundation Scholarship

The CHS Foundation will be offering 100, $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors pursuing a degree in an agricultural-related field at any college or university throughout the United States and Canada. Applications are available on-line at

Employees of First National Bank Scholarship

A $250 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who 1) has shown interest in the field of business or agricultural business and 2) be a person who strives to excel in community and life and possesses those qualities associated with good citizenship. The recipient must attend a college or vocational school the year following graduation from Springfield Public High School. The scholarship will be awarded after completion of the first semester of college. Children of employee(s) will not be eligible for receipt of this scholarship.

National Independent Health Club Association Scholarship

Anytime Fitness is part of the National Independent Health Club Association or NIHCA, and theyhave created a $500 Wellness Scholarship for interested students in the wellness & fitness fields.Eligible candidates should plan to major in Health, Wellness, Sports Management, Facility Management, Health Promotion, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Exercise Science, or other related fields. Clean Air Choice Biodiesel Essay Scholarship

The American Lung Association in Minnesota and the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council are inviting any interested high school seniors to apply for the Clean Air Choice Biodiesel Essay Scholarship. The rules are fairly simple: current high school seniors in the state of Minnesota with plans to attend postsecondary education are eligible to submit a brief (1,000 words or less) essay on the topic of biodiesel. Two scholarships will be awarded. The first place essay writer will receive a $1,000 scholarship; the second place essay writer will receive a $500 scholarship. All essays and application materials must be submitted to the American Lung Association in Minnesota by 4:30pm onFriday, April 3, 2015. One $500 scholarship available to a graduate of Springfield Public School. Must have a 2.0 GPA, attend a post-secondary institution, and show involvement in extra-curricular activities for one or more years. Application due by April 8, 2015, to Mrs. DeBerg.

Sylvester Schunk Educational Scholarship

~The Sylvester Schunk Educational Scholarship committee will award scholarships to high school or college students enrolled at an institution of higher education.To be a qualified applicant you need to have a Sanborn or Springfield address and be a full time student.Thescholarship is open to any field; however, Sylvester’s priority is in the agricultural field.

~Two recommendations are required: One from a clergy member at your church and the other from your school counselor or principal. Please allow these people ample time to fill out recommendations.

~High School Applications are available from Mrs. DeBerg. College applications must be picked up at F & M Bank or are on-line.

Joseph J. Schneider & Katherine Schneider Family Trust Scholarship

~Available to high school student(s) who will graduate or any student

who has graduated from the Springfield Public High School.

~Financial need will be the main criteria for this scholarship award. Applications are in Mrs. DeBerg’s office or at F & M Bank.

Wingert Realty & Land Services Inc.

Charles & RoseLynnWingert Scholarship

A $1000.00 scholarship has been created byWingert Realty & Land Services Inc., Charles & RoseLynn (Rathman) Wingert. Wingert Realty & Land Services, Inc. have done several land sales/auctions in the Springfield area and wanted to show their gratitude and encourage young people to continue the dream of a career in the agricultural field. All graduating seniors from Springfield Public School are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The recipient will be chosen on the basis of individual character and recommendations. The scholarship is intended to go to a student planning to pursue a career in agriculture or engineering. If no candidate meets the criteria, it is preferred the recipient have an agricultural background. Applications are due in Mrs. DeBerg’s office by April 15, 2015.

Jim and Lauretta Bean Scholarship

An applicant for the Jim and Loretta Bean Scholarship must be a graduate of Springfield Public High School who is beginning his/her junior year in college and is majoring in the field of journalism or elementary education. Funds will be released at the beginning of the student’s third year in college and will be payable to the college.

Scholarships will be awarded according to the following criteria: 1) Grades during first two years of college, 2) Extra-curricular/community activities, and 3) 100-word essay on why the scholarship is needed.

Letters of application should be sent to the Guidance Counselor at Springfield High School along with a transcript of grades, a description of extra-curricular activities, and a short essay. The scholarship will be awarded at graduation ceremonies the same year. Application deadline is April 17, 2015.

Dr. and Mrs. Carl Denzine Fine Arts Endowment

The recipient of this $500 scholarship should be an individual (male or female) who has demonstrated exceptional ability in the fine arts (Art, Band, Choir, Drama, or Speech). Leadership and citizenship in school and community are also a part of the criteria. Financial aid is not a factor. Application due by April 17, 2015, to Mrs. DeBerg.

Allen Kettner Scholarship and Geraldine Ritzenthaler Scholarship

The Springfield Rotary Club gives two scholarships in the names of Allen Kettner and Geraldine Ritzenthaler. The Allen Kettner Award is presented to an outstanding male member of the Senior Class. The Geraldine Ritzenthaler Award is presented to an outstanding female member of the Senior Class. Both scholarships are in the amount of $500. Criteria for these awards include 1) student activities, 2) belief in the support of our government, and 3) possible financial need and a desire to pursue higher education.

Mike and Jodi Pieschel Scholarship

A $5000 scholarship will be awarded to a Springfield High School graduate who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and excellence throughout his/her four years of high school. Recipient must attend a college or university and maintain a 2.5 GPA. The scholarship will be payable at the rate of $1250 per year and shall be awarded for four years of attendance at a college or university. Failure to attend college or failure to maintain a 2.5 GPA will result in the forfeiture of the scholarship until such time as the deficiency is corrected.

Roland Boettger Family Charitable Fund

Two, $500 scholarships available for graduating seniors. Emphasis will be considered to those who will be pursuing a degree in the fields of Ag Business or Ag Production. Application due by April 20, 2015, to Mrs. DeBerg.

Redwood Falls Area Theatre Scholarship

Each year the Redwood Area Theatre (RAT) offers scholarships to area seniors who have been involved with theatre. Scholarship applicants are expected to have significant experience in high school theatre or in community theatre. Theatre experience includes all aspects of a production from acting on stage, playing in a pit orchestra, building sets, or any other “backstage work”. Application is due April 20, 2015.

Springfield Education Association Scholarship

One scholarship is given in the amount of $300. Open to all seniors in the class of 2015. Application due by April 22, 2015 to Mrs. DeBerg.

Walter J. Rempel Industrial Arts Scholarship

This $500 one-year scholarship will be given to an individual (male or female) who hasshown a strong interest in industrial arts. The recipient should demonstrate leadershipand citizenship in his/her school and community. Financial need is not a factor. Therecipient must attend a four (4) year college or university or a two (2) year college orvocational/technical institution. The recipient must be a graduate of Springfield PublicSchools, and must attend one of the above mentioned institutions the year followinggraduation from high school. Funds will be released to the recipient upon the completionof the first year of post-secondary education.

Ruth Dallmann Education Scholarship

Ruth Dallmann was a former Springfield Kindergarten teacher until her retirement in 1980. Her scholarship is for graduating seniors who have expressed an interest in the field of education and plan to teach in the public schools. Applicants must be planning to attend a two or four-year college majoring in the field of education. The recipient should demonstrate leadership and citizenship within the school and community.

Abigale R. Peterson Memorial Scholarship

The Abigale R. Peterson Memorial Scholarship will be available to high school seniors who will be attending a 4-year or 2-year university or college. Applicants should meet the following criteria: 1) be individuals (male or female) who have demonstrated exceptional ability and interest in further study in science, health/medical, or literacy. Literacy interest may include but not limited to the teaching or journalism field; 2) must have at least a 3.0 cum GPA; and 3) should demonstrate leadership and citizenship in school and the community. Additional criteria to be used will be an emphasis on volunteer activities, church activities, and also community activities. Attention will be given to extra-curricular activities. Financial need is not a factor.

2015Springfield FFA Boosters Scholarship

Scholarships to be awarded in varying amounts up to $2000 in the form of a check made out to the student at the completion of his/her first semester of college. A copy of the student’s first semester transcript must be presented to the FFA Booster Treasurer. All applications will be judged by the Executive committee of the Springfield Boosters using the following criteria listed in priority order:

  1. Applicant’s length of FFA Membership
  2. Quality of applicant’s FFA Membership
  3. FFA activities participated in
  4. Applicant’s Supervised Agricultural Experience
  5. FFA Awards and honors received
  6. Applicant’s Agricultural Education received and planned
  7. High school courses taken
  8. Applicant’s college plans

Springfield Area Health Care Foundation

Scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors or graduates who are planning to pursue a career in the health care field. Seniors or graduates from Springfield, Red Rock Central, Cedar Mountain, Wabasso, and Comfrey high schools are eligible to apply. Applications are available in Mrs. DeBerg’s office or at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Springfield. Applications must be completed and postmarked by April 24, 2015.

JUNIORS: Minnesota Association of Townships:

Awarding up to four $1000 scholarships

Applicants must be a junior in public, private, home school, or parochial high school who is planning to attend a college, university, or vocational school

Must complete an application form and a written essay discussing the topic: “What are the different ways fire protection is provided by townships? How is the cost of fire protection funded by a township and at what meeting is the extent of that cost approved? What challenges are faced by rural fire departments in providing fire protection?”

Essays must be between 450-500 words, and must be typed and double-spaced.

Minnesota Valley Chapter 642, Mankato MN Aviation Scholarship

Chapter 642 of the Experimental Aircraft Association is offering up to two, $1000 scholarships to assist high school students who have an interest in learning to fly or acquiring skill to build aircraft.Application forms are available on-line at Application is due no later than May 1, 2015.

Alert Magazine “Speak Out” Scholarship

In order to qualify for this scholarship, applicants must currently be a senior in high school, must have a GPA of 2.5 or better, and must have plans to attend college after graduation. This $500 scholarship consists of writing an essay (650-800 words, double- spaced) about a personal encounter you or someone you know has had with drug and/or alcohol abuse, how it was dealth with, what you learned from it, and what was right or wrong (in your opinion) about the way the incident or problem was handled. Scholarship essays are judged on the same criteria that essays written for a high school English class would be, i.e., thesis statement, supporting content, grammar, punctuation, etc. No application is required and there is no deadline. Applicants should mail their double-spaced essay of 650-800 words, official transcripts, color photo, name, phone number, address, and school name to:

Athnet Sports Recruiting Scholarship

Athnet Sports Recruitingis offering a $1,000 scholarship available to future college students who played sports at the high school level. 2015 high school seniors are eligible to apply if they will be attending college next year.

Applicants are asked to write a 400-500 word essay describing how the lessons they have learned through playing sports have positively impacted them as they pursue their college education.
