Attention 5th grade parents!

Hard to believe, but it is already time to begin the middle school scheduling process! Soonschool counselors from Brookland Middle School* will visit Trevvett to talk with our 5th graders about scheduling their middle school classes and about all of the elective and extra-curricular activities Brookland has to offer. In Henrico County, we use thePOWERSCHOOL system for scheduling classes.I will explain everything parents and guardians need to know in a video that will be emailed to you by the end of the month.

Please keep a lookout for this video and handouts that will be sent home!

*Students zoned to attend Trevvett are zoned to attend Brookland Middle – this is based on your home address. Even if your child applied to the IB Program, he or she should STILL proceed as if he or she will be going to Brookland until you hear otherwise (decisions mailed after 5pm on February 2nd). Schedules will be adjusted at a later date if accepted.

Here are some helpful web resources to aid in this process. I am always available for questions at and at 804-261-5060.

The “PROCESS”:

STEP 1: Teachers will make course recommendations for middle school. At Brookland, all students will take a total of 8 courses: math, English, science, social studies, PE, academic wheel English, and two electives. The only exceptions are students who are identified as ESL, Gifted, or who need extra assistance in math. More on this later.

STEP 2:Parents will then discuss these recommendations with their child and confirm/review recommendations and choose electives online through the POWERSCHOOL PARENT PORTAL during the Parent Window*. You will be given instructions on how to access the portal.Parents who do not have computer/internet access can use computers in the Trevvett Library to confirm recommendations and choose electives during conferences. See Ms. Bushey with questions or to set up a time to use the computers.

*Parent Window: Please complete this process from January 30th – February 9th.

STEP 3: Ms. Bushey will print all recommendations and send them home on Tuesday, March 6th.

STEP 4: All recommendation sheets (yellow copies) will be due NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, MARCH 9th.
