Marine Creek Elementary

Attendance, Tardies, and Absences

Your child’s academic success is very important to us. In order for that to happen, his/her attendance in class is extremely important. We want to make sure everyone is aware of the attendance policy, as the state law is very clear on which absences are excused.

The following is a list of approved absence reasons with the proper documentation for elementary students:

  • medical illness
  • board approved extracurricular activities
  • medical appointments, screenings and similar matters
  • juvenile or other mandated court appearance
  • absences required by state or local welfare authorities
  • death and or serious illness of an immediate family member (with documentation)
  • religious holy days
  • family emergencies (approved by administrator)
  • deployment of immediate family members

All other absences, unless approved by an administrator, will be unexcused. Failure to turn in notes within 72 hours (3 days) of the absence will result in an unverified absence. Regardless of the reason, documentation is required foreveryabsence.

A student is counted tardy if he/she is not in the classroom when the tardy bell rings at 8:05 a.m.Tardies are considered “Loss of Significant Instructional Time” and can be addressed by the court the same as unexcused absences. Leaving school early (being signed out prior to dismissal) is also considered a “Loss of Significant Instructional Time”. If a child must leave early due to a medical/dental appointment, please bring in the note from the doctor so that it can be excused. NO EARLY DISMISSALS AFTER 3:15P.M. Please plan accordingly. We understand there might be emergency situationsthat would require a dismissal after 3:15. Those will need tobe approved by either the principal or assistant principal.

According to the Compulsory Attendance Law, an accumulation of 10 unexcused absences or “Loss of Significant Instructional Time” in a six-month period may result in possible truancy court action.

When turning in a note for attendance, please make sure the note has your child's full name, dates of the absences, reason for the absence, and your signature and date. If a note is turned in after 72 hours (3 days) the absence will be considered unexcused. If you have any other questions, please call our office at 817-306-4270.

Dear parents and guardians of Marine Creek students:

Your child’s education is important to the Lake Worth Independent School District and to Marine Creek Elementary School. Because students cannot learn when they are absent from the classroom, and because students can develop poor habits for the future when they arrive late to school, it is important to encourage and ensure prompt arrival each and every day school is in session. Therefore, beginning Tuesday, September 5th Marine Creek Elementary School will implement a new tardy & early dismissal policy. Our goal is to reward those practicing punctuality and to discourage tardiness and early dismissals.

Incentives for daily punctuality:(May include, but not limited to)

  • Restaurant certificate reward
  • Popcorn or ice cream reward assembly
  • Extra recess time

Deterrents of tardiness/early dismissals:(Will include, but not limited to)

  • Loss of reward assembly
  • Ten tardiesand/or early dismissalsper Semester (beginning Tuesday, September 5, 2017) would result in the loss of the next class field trip.

We thank you for your understanding and support as we work to instill values in your children they will carry with them throughout their lives.

Respectfully,

Craig Beasley

Principal
