Summary of Work to Date and Next Steps

  • *Meeting 1: Leverage existing resources – reviewed public and private resources both locally, nationally and community best practices for alignment; presentation of high level fiscal scan of our community; agreed on need to collectively align resources but also drill down on financial fiscal scan via a more detailed provider survey (need to complete)
  • *Meeting 2: System mapping and coordinated entry – agreed to the need for a coordinated, crisis response system that is easily accessible, streamlined, efficient and low barrier; identified gaps
  • *Meeting 3: Systems Change – System transformation, Housing First and Funding innovations – agreed to increase housing stock, increase landlord participation, utilization of system performance measures and standards of care for service provision throughout the continuum
  • *Meeting 4: Creating the Plan - Level setting: rare, brief and non-recurring; Big Goals: End chronic (2019), family and youth (2020) and Veteran (2016); identified the measures; reassessed gapsto ending a person’s homelessness e.g. housing stock
  • *Meeting 5: Chronic homelessness - assessed current data, weaknesses and financial modeling to identify needs for housing stock and cost
  • *Youth meeting: charrette held on 9/22/16 with youth stakeholders - mapped next steps for youth, agreement on ending youth homelessness by 2020, identification of measures and guiding principles/best practices, and coordinated entry design.Follow up meeting 11/14 with True Colors Fund TA to create an annual action plan.
  • *Meeting 6: Leading change and Rapid Rehousing and Families - Rapid rehousing (what it is and how to effectively use) and using RRH to specifically target and end family homelessness; Leading change in confronting homelessness and how to lead significant change and system transformation in the homeless space
  • Follow up meeting scheduled with RRH and Family providers: 11/21/16
  • Philanthropic buy-in: Presentation to 30+ Atlanta funders to provider overview of work to date and request feedback and input
  • Economic security: Meeting scheduled with AWDA and employment partners to identify areas for partnership
  • Affordable housing and homelessness: Meeting scheduled with key city and community stakeholders, 11/18

Next Steps:

  • Finalizing fiscal scan, collective alignment/impact and financial leveraging
  • Veterans: subgroup will meet and map out sustainability plan and application submission
  • Small group community buy-in meetings/listening sessions: CoC and Committee members will meet with small groups of leaders, providers and stakeholders to present draft recommendations and gather feedback/input
  • Draft recommendations presented to the SP Planning Committee in early December
  • Final draft plan by early January to SP planning committee and Governing Council for approval on 1/19/2017
  • Approval by Mayor and adoption by City Council – February 2017
  • Media release of the plan to follow City Council adoption
  • Annual action plan created to identify detailed steps to reach the goals of the plan – February 2017

*All committee meeting work was then presented to the entire CoC at each monthly meeting to update and request feedback and input.
