(i)Welcome to new members and guests
New member Tony Harrington welcomed & introduced to attending members, Tony is a local man; we look forward to his input and participation.
(ii) Discussion of minutes of Meeting of March 30th 2005
Item (vi) “special science schools” modified to read “wider group of science schools” this will include other local science schools.
Item (viii) “Martha Croft” should read “Martha Crouch”
Minutes signed off.
(iii) Matters Arising
AGM attendance list omitted Stuart Martin, will members please add.
(iv) Website update:
Alex (the webmaster) couldn’t attend tonight’s meeting, he sent a message to say that by the next meeting he will have a fully working Members area; user manual; statistics section & possibly a news board.
LVW; Old information lists from Radhika (original webmaster) may be available this next week.
(v) Bicentennial 2004 Commemorative Book: & Heritage Book update
First 300 pages almost done, still waiting Rev Anne Peart paper. We are also still waiting the following 2 items from Stephen Bartle.
S Bartle, speech from Oakwell 2004.
S Bartle, reply to Colin Russell paper at BOC Symposium.
Heritage book, due for delivery from printers.
(vi) Charitable Trust
Before submitting an application to the Charities Commission, we have to obtain a Certificate of Registration from Company House.
At the AGM (March 13th 2005) we adopted model memoranda GD1. Option 1, Section 5 of GD1 was adopted to facilitate the application to the Charitable Trust.. i.e. “No Director May Receive Any Financial Benefit from the Charity either through business or employment. ” There must be at least 2 Directors in the Company Registration Form 10.. Les Woodcock (Chairman) Stuart Martin (EDXCEL) & Jim Birch (Secretary) agreed to be nominated for this purpose..
The necessary forms along with a fee of £20.00 will be submitted.
Once registered as a Company, and we receive the relevant Certificate from Company House, we will submit to the Charitable Trust.
All Directors and Subscribers nominated along the lines of the last minutes may then be registered as Trustees.
(vii) July 4th Lecture with JP College Morley Town Hall
Meeting to arrange with Carolyn Wright, to finalise details.
(viii) Missing JP portrait in Leeds
Still to meet with Eileen Smith to obtain more details, LVW has already contacted Leeds art gallery regarding painting, we await their reply.
(ix) Kirklees Museums, Bagshaw
LVW has e-mailed Brian Haigh (Kirklees Museums) to fix another meeting; we would like one or two local Councillors to attend.
(x) Heckmondwike Park redevelopment
Councillor David Exley will involve the society once they have the full proposals available.
(xi) Any other business.
Christmas supper at Old Hall December 2005, full support from attending members, 28th December was suggested this will be to confirm.
Suggestions are needed for some form of event during August, any ideas?
We have received an invitation to the Mayor’s Civic Reception on the 11th
May, all places are booked up.
We have also received an invitation to the Mayor making ceremony at 1.00 pm on 18th May, this is in the main hall at Huddersfield Town Hall,
This event is open to all please be seated by 12.50 pm.
Woodkirk School has obtained a licence to give a local radio broadcast
from the 1st of July to the 10th July, this will include a ½ hour local history program, all programs will be pre-recorded during May, it is probable that Carolyn Wright will cover a program from the Joseph Priestley College at Morley, & Les Woodcock will cover a program for the Priestley Society.
Virginia Stokeley will co-ordinate the programs.
