Golder has a new opportunity for Archaeological Field Crew Supervisor and Field Crew Assistants with proven experience in Northeastern British Columbia for their upcoming 2018 Field Season on a contractual basis based in Fort St. John. Fieldwork will be primarily located in the Fort St. John area and is scheduled to begin mid-April and end early to mid-October. This may be extended or shortened depending on changing schedules and/or weather conditions.

As an Archaeological Field Crew Supervisor, your role will include:

  • Providing effective direction, supervision, and support to members of the field team as required
  • Carrying out archaeological survey, test excavation and mitigative excavation in a cultural resources management setting
  • Proficiency with digital field recording techniques and electronic devices
  • Working in a variety of environments, such as all-weather conditions, rugged and semi-remote locations, and overnight accommodations in a camp setting
  • Providing training and direction to new archaeological field staff and refreshers to existing staff
  • Participating in Golder’s Health & Safety program and monitor the Health & Safety performance of archaeological field employees
  • Complying with Golder’s Fit for Duty Policy
  • Demonstrating a “Safety First” focus and acting as a role model to other staff
  • Maintaining a high standard of ethical behavior to uphold Golder’s reputation and demonstrates a commitment to our Core Values
  • Performing other duties as required, including but not limited to, artifact analysis, reporting, and research

The Archaeological Field Crew Supervisor will have the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Possess an Archaeology, Anthropology or related Degree from a recognized program
  • Demonstrated experience in Northeastern British Columbia archaeological fieldwork and the ability to observe and instruct others in good field methodology at a brisk pace
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strength in working in varying terrain and weather conditions and work well with others for extended periods of time
  • Ability to do strenuous field work, including hiking in uneven terrain, carrying heavy loads and manual excavating
  • Ability to follow and implement training and instructions (both health and safety, and technical);
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 5)
  • ATV/UTV and First Aid Certification would be considered an asset

As an Archaeological Field Crew Assistant, your role will include:

  • Carrying out archaeological survey, test excavation and mitigative excavation in a cultural resources management setting under the direction of the Field Crew Supervisor
  • Demonstrating a “Safety First” focus and acting as a role model to other staff
  • Complying with Golder’s Fit for Duty Policy
  • Maintaining a high standard of ethical behavior to uphold Golder’s reputation and demonstrates a commitment to our Core Values
  • Working in a variety of environments, such as all-weather conditions, rugged and semi-remote locations, and overnight accommodations in a camp setting
  • Performing other duties as required, including but not limited to, artifact analysis, reporting, and research

The Archaeological Field Crew Assistant will have the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Possess an Archaeology, Anthropology or related Degree from a recognized program or nearing completion
  • Some knowledge of British Columbia archaeology
  • Able to work in varying terrain and weather conditions
  • Ability to do strenuous field work, including hiking in uneven terrain, carrying heavy loads and manual excavating
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to take direction and work in both a team environment and independently
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 5)
