At Camp Squanto, Le Baron R Barker Scout Reservation in Plymouth, MA

WELCOME – The New England Arabian Trail Organization (NEATO) invites you to participate in the Flatlanders 50 Endurance & 30 LD on Sunday, Oct 29th, 2017. The ride is AERC and ECTRA sanctioned, and shall be governed by AERC rules and regulations.

This is the tenth year for NEATO to run an endurance ride and we have many of the same experienced people volunteering their time to make this happen. This is actually the second “Flatlanders” at Myles Standish SF in Massachusetts, out near Cape Cod. Myles Standish SF has a combination of rolling hills, single-track trails and mostly sandy and some sandy gravel roads. Some of the roads have their share of rocks, but most of the trails that have been selected for the course are of a sandy base. (Shoes or protective boots are always recommended for your horse)

CAMP – This ride is to be run out of Camp Squanto Boy Scout Reservation just outside of the Myles Standish State Forest. There is a large grassy field to park and set up small penned areas for your horses. (We have some round pen panels if needed. Contact ride management.) There are water faucets/hoses available near the camp area for horses. There are no RV electrical hookups. Negative Coggins tests AND Rabies vaccines within one year must be included with entry or shown to unload. The grounds are open from Saturday, Oct 28th to Monday, Oct 30th. Please call the ride manager if you want to arrive earlier. Dogs must be confined or on leashes at all times. Hay, shavings, and manure from your campsite must be picked up AND placed in designated areas on the camp grounds. Generators need to be turned off by 10 pm.

FEES – All entrants must show a 2017 AERC membership card at the ride or copy sent with entry, no exceptions, or must pay an additional $15.00 AERC fee.

All entries must be received by 10/19/17. All those not pre entered MUST PAY A $ 50 LATE FEE IN ADDITION TO THE ENTRY FEES. Meals cannot be guaranteed to those entrants signing up in the last week before the ride. If you pay a $50 deposit per rider (or the full amount) to enter, post marked by 10/19/17 will be enough to secure your entry in the ride.

CANCELED ENTRIES– Refunds will only be given in the event that the ride is canceled or if there is an injury/illness to horse and/or rider PRIOR to the event (less $50 for handling fee). This includes any horses not passing the pre-ride check. Only noshows who have not canceled will not be refunded.

FOOD – Included in entry for riders. There will be pastries and coffee Sunday morning and snacks and refreshments following the ride at the awards ceremony. All non-riders are required to purchase meal tickets.

VETTING – Vet In will go from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM on Saturday. A riders meeting will be held at 7:00 pm. Late arrivals will be vetted in after the riders meeting or until dark.

Head vet: Dr Nick Kohutother vets:Dr. Matthew Kornatowski

50’s- 50 milers will go out at 7:00 AM, although the start times will be subject to change at the discretion of management. For both 50’s and 30’s, the first hold will be away from base camp at the Horseman’s Day parking area. The 50 milers will have three loops consisting of one twenty-mile loop, plus two loops of plus/minus 15 miles each. There will be a 10 minute stop and go for the 50 milers about 8 miles from the start. There will be one place on each loop for crews to meet their riders and horses.

30’s – 30 mile Limited Distanceat 7:30 AM, although the start times will be subject to change at the discretion of management. The 30-mile course will have two loops of plus/minus of 15 miles. There will be one place on each loop for crews to meet their riders and horses.

At the 30 mile LD finish, ride time of the competitor continues until post ride veterinary recovery criteria for finish is met. A separate pre ride briefing after the Riders Meeting will be held for the LDs and new riders.

AWARDS – The 50 mile Endurance and the 30 mile LD awards will be given according to AERC and ECTRA rules on Sunday.

For the 50’s and 30s: there will be awards for completion, top ten, best condition and turtle.

We will have top finishing placement breed awards for Arabian, Half Arabian, Appaloosa, Tennessee Walking Horse and Standardbred and Morgan.

CREWS & TRAILS– Maps and directions will be provided for the riders and the pit crews. There will be at least one place to meet your rider on every loop. The trails have some moderate hills, and consist of sandy and gravel roads, single-track trails (with sandy footing). There will be either natural water or tanks approximately every 5-8 miles.

There will not be a farrier available for this ride except for special arrangements prior to the ride. Please bring your horses well shod or hoof boots…. or a sense of humor. 
