NEWS FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents,
Our first major event for celebrating our 20th School Anniversary went extremely well with high participation from parents, past and present staff and local dignitaries. Mrs. Phyllis Zellmer, Crown Point’s first principal was there and shared about the opening of our school in 1993. Twenty-five previous staff members who worked with Mrs. Zellmer were in attendance with two coming from Georgia and Maryland. Former PTA presidents, the executive director of the east zone, former students, and our school board representative shared inspiring words about our celebration. The 20th Anniversary Committee, parents and present staff members organized and decorated our multipurpose into a grand ballroom with hanging stars, lively music and an exceptional international dinner. Other events are being planned throughout the year and we look forward to your participation.
The first quarter of school is officially over and report cards will be sent home on Friday, November 15, 2013; all parents should have met with their child’s teacher for a parent teacher conference. If you have not met with or have a scheduled conference time with your child’s teacher, please contact the teacher immediately and arrange a convenient conference time. It is important for parents to be aware of their child’s educational process and fully understand what is needed to advance to the next grade level. Your continual support of your child’s education will keep you knowledgeable of your child’s educational requirements.
On Monday, November 4, 2013, a parent meeting will be held for all parents about the Common Core Standards and North Carolina Testing Updates at Mint Hill Middle School Cafeteria. The purpose of the meeting is to provide relevant information and answer questions about these two important areas. This is a joint meeting for all of the feeder schools in the Butler High School feeder area which includes our school, Crown Point. Hope you are able to attend.
During the season of thanksgiving, may you and your family appreciate all of the blessings and goodness in your lives.
Sincerely,
Mark S. Anderson, Principal

Happy Fall Parents,
We have been very busy in the library this year. We had another outstanding book fair. With funds earned we were able to purchase over 130 hardcover books to add to our library collection. We were also able to provide all teachers with a $25.00 certificate to purchase books for their classrooms. This would not have been possible without your support and the many volunteers who helped during this time. The kids are already excited and looking forward to our spring fair which will be held in March.
I would also like to say THANK YOU to everyone who participated in our Media Day celebration. The students looked amazing and everyone enjoyed learning about new and favorite books. It was a huge success. Please look at our Media wiki for updates and events.
Happy Reading,
Ms. Ward

Greetings All! Just a quick note to remind you that flu season is looming. It has begun to pick up speed at our neighbor, South Carolina already, and is knocking on our door! Please be sure your children are getting the rest they need, and limit snacks (especially sugary ones) which prevent sleeping soundly by increasing the metabolism, and adding sugar and caffeine to their systems! Please feed them healthy foods, soups and Non-processed foods when possible, it takes more time for you, but it is worth healthy bodies! If your child is sick, PLEASE KEEP THEM HOME!
Flu symptoms are:
1-fever
2-congestion, cough
3-sore throat
4-stomach symptoms, like vomiting
5-aching muscles
Any or all of these symptoms MAY be present, but not always. Your child may return after being FEVER FREE FOR 24 hours.
The best way to avoid the loss of school days, is to get the flu shot! It is not too late to protect your children from getting the very debilitating, and sometimes dangerous influenza infections in your home! If your children have Asthma, Diabetes, or other chronic illnesses, they should absolutely get the flu shot. It will protect your child from getting sick for 5-7 days, and having to make up all that time! Please consider immunizing your child against flu! Contact your physician, or go to the local CVS, Walgreens, or Rite Aid for your shot, or contact the Health Department for their scheduled clinics.
Yours in Health,
Lynn Martin RN
