Line Manager: / Senior regional official
Duration of Contract: / Fixed Term (2 January – 31 December 2018)
Confirmation of Appointment: / Your appointment is conditional, subject to the National Education Union (ATL section) receiving satisfactory references, valid certificates for all qualifications and a satisfactory medical report.
Probationary Period: / Six months.
Notice Period: / Your employment will be terminable by written notice as follows:-
Three months’ notice taking effect on the last day of a calendar month, or such shorter notice as may be agreed in writing by the parties.
Hours: / The position is part-time (pro-rata 06). You shall be required to work an average of 3 days (21 hours) a week during the one year fixed term contract.
The normal office hours are 9.00 am to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday including an hour’s lunch break.
You may/will be required to work occasional evening and/or weekend work.
Location: / You will be home-based serving a region. This will be your normal place of work; however you will be required to be mobile and to cover such geographical area as may reasonably be assigned to you. Any change in geographical area will be subject to consultation with the employee.
As a home-based worker it is expected that you will live in the region to which you are appointed. The cost of travel within your region may be claimed. However, if you live outside the region that you are employed to serve please be aware that you may not claim travel costs for travelling to your region for work.
The National Education Union (ATL section) is unable to offer relocation expenses.
You will also be expected to attend the National Education Union (ATL section) London offices, 7 Northumberland Street, London WC2N 5RD on occasion, as the responsibilities of your role require.
Job Band: / D2 (outside London)
Salary: p.a. / Starting salary £26,463 pa pro-rata 0.6 of FTE of £44,105 rising through five increments to £20,451 pa pro-rata of FTE of £30,677 (outside London). Part-time employees is salary is pro-rated
Home Worker’s
Allowance: / Employees whose normal place of work is their home address will receive an annual home worker’s allowance. The full-time allowance is currently £720 pa. Employees receive the maximum tax free payment permitted by HMRC and the remainder of the allowance is paid on a pro rata basis according to the number of hours for which a home worker is employed. It is paid in monthly instalments.
Essential Car User’s Allowance / Employees whose work requires the use of their car are entitled to receive a one-off allowance for the purchase of equipment to promote safe driving.
Service Recognition: / ATL section operates a service recognition scheme which aims to value the commitment people bring to their role. On every fifth anniversary of your appointment you will receive a small payment in cash or vouchers and an additional day’s leave in that year. (Subject to certain conditions).
Pension: / Subject to certain conditions, you will be automatically enrolled into the ATL Section Pension Scheme (the "Scheme"). Full details of the Scheme are available from the HR team.
A contracting-out certificate is not in force.
Expenses: / You will be reimbursed for reasonable out of pocket expenses incurred in the proper performance of your duties. The details of the expenses policy are set out in the Employee Handbook.
Holidays: / The full-time entitlement is 6.6 working weeks’ holiday (33 days based on a 5 day working week) per calendar year at times to be arranged with the line manager. Holiday entitlement accrues from the first day of employment.
In addition you will receive:
(i) 8 days paid holiday entitlement for the normal public holidays on the condition you are employed by the NEU (ATL section) at the time the normal public holidays fall; and
(ii) 3 days paid holiday entitlement as the NEU (ATL section) office closure days at Christmas on the condition you are employed by the NEU (ATL section) when the office closes at Christmas.
Entitlements to paid leave, Bank Holidays and the NEU (ATL section) days are pro-rated for part-time employees.
Sickness or Injury: / A detailed schedule of entitlement to sickness payment is included in your Employee Handbook.
The scale of allowances in respect of sick pay for full-time employees is set out below. The entitlement for part-time employees is pro-rated.
First year of service (up to 4 calendar months’ service)
5 working weeks’ (25 days) full pay
First year of service (following completion of 4 calendar months’ service)
5.4 working weeks’ (27 days) full pay and
11 working weeks’ (55 days) half pay
Second year of service
11 working weeks’ (55 days) full pay and
11 working weeks’ (55 days) half pay
Third year of service
16.6 working weeks’ (83 days) full pay and
16.6 working weeks’ (83 days) half pay
Fourth and successive years’ of service
22.2 working weeks’ (111 days) full pay and
22.2 working weeks’ (111 days) half pay
Training: / You will, in consultation with your line manager, endeavour to develop yourself through personal learning and training courses. You will be offered an annual appraisal and development interview.
Season Ticket Loan: / You will be able to apply after satisfactory completion of your probationary period.
Employee Assistance
Programme: / ATL section subscribes to an Employee Assistance Programme on your behalf. The programme is provided through Wellbeing solutions management and is accessible to you and your family members.
Childcare Vouchers: / ATL section offers Child Care Vouchers through a salary sacrifice scheme administered by Edenred. These are available to employees who have children up to the age of 15/16 years old.
Eye care: / ATL section contributes towards the cost of eye tests and spectacles for VDU use at work. This is done through an eye care voucher scheme.
Cycle to Work Scheme: / ATL section offers the opportunity to purchase a bike and related safety accessories for commuting purposes free of tax (PAYE) and NIC. This is a salary sacrifice scheme run through Cyclescheme.co.uk.
Employee Consultation: / ATL section recognises GMB and Unite for the purposes of consultation and negotiation. There is also a Staff Forum through which employees may raise issues and for consultation on working practices.
Other Benefits: / Discounts on a range of insurance and services provided for ATL section members.
Contract: / You will receive a written Statement of Particulars within 8 weeks of commencing work. Included in these terms will be details of grievance and disciplinary procedures. Your contract of employment consists of these Terms and Conditions, the accompanying offer letter and your written Statement of Particulars which you will receive.
Employee Handbook: / An Employee Handbook will be issued to you. It covers such issues as Health and Safety and other people policies and procedures followed by ATL section .
