Associate Pastor for Student Ministries and Contemporary Worship

The Associate Pastor for Student Ministries and Contemporary Worship (hereafter referred to as the Pastor for Students) is responsible to cultivate a spiritually sound and dynamic student ministry environment for First Baptist Church, paying particular attention to the shepherding and disciple-making of students and their families, as well as resourcing staff, volunteers, and parents in their effort to help students begin a relationship with and follow Jesus Christ. This position will work collaboratively with the pastor of children’s ministries in developing and implementing a comprehensive spiritual growth pathway for children, students and the families of First Baptist Church.

Responsibilities

Leadership. It is the responsibility of the Pastor for Students to fulfill the primary leadership role for First Baptist Church’s student ministry, in subordination to and collaboration with the senior pastor. In this role they will ensure the proper management of all of the ministry and operational aspects of First Baptist Church’s student ministry. Moreover, he/she will represent First Baptist Church’s student ministry interests in the public sphere, as well as participating within the denominational and broadercommunities.

Ministry. It is the responsibility of the Pastor for Students to engage in a high level of ministry within and beyond the First Baptist family, giving primary and prayerful attention to students and their families as a shepherd and catalyst for spiritual development. This includes thoughtful communication of the Word of God (teaching and preaching), support and promotion of First Baptist Church’s mission and vision, and the assurance of spiritual integrity.

Operations. It is the responsibility of the Pastor to Students to oversee the organizational health of First Baptist Church’s student ministry, giving particular consideration to the development and coordination of a mature ministry and support team, a healthy budget that can bear the scrutiny of the congregation and official auditors, strategic goals that enable First Baptist Church to fulfill its mission and vision, and the necessary structures to ensure a successful operational environment.

Essential Job Functions:

Lead and oversee middle and high school and College Age Student Ministry programs, incorporatingelements designed for spiritual growth and outreach as well as life of service.

• Overseeand participate in camps, events, retreats and mission opportunities for students

• Coordinate communicationof Student Ministries with staff, student leaders and parents

Recruit, develop and partner with adult leaders and parents

Facilitate interaction with parents that supports and equips them in their role in thespiritual development of students (Orange Model).

Work with other Next Generation ministry environments to assist in developing asmooth transition from children’s ministries into student ministry and from High School to post H.S.

Prepare budgets and strategic planning for Student Ministries

  • Oversee and coach the worship teams in the contemporary worship service and administrate the Technical teams that support both services.
  • Work with the Senior Pastor to design and craft the Contemporary Worship Service.

Reporting Relationships

Accountability. The student pastor reports directly to the senior pastor. Attends weekly staff meetings and enjoys the 1:1 supervision by the Senior Pastor.

Supervision. The student pastor directly supervises the student ministry staff, interns and volunteers.

Preferred Education and Experience

Education.Candidates should hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. Preference will be given to those holding a master of divinity or equivalent.

Experience.Preference will be given to those candidates who have a measurable degree of experience in a larger church environment (church attendance of 350+), have a proven track record with a multiple staff and have a history of fruitful visionary leadership.

Exemption Status

This is a fulltime (40-50 hrs/week) exempt salaried position.
