Purpose of the role: /
  • To help create and have a strong commitment to a clear vision for an effective school
  • To participate in whole school policymaking and strategic thinking
  • To implement strategies for the efficient day to day operation of the school within the policies adopted by the Governing Body
  • To develop and implement strategies to ensure every student achieves at the highest possible level
  • To ensure teaching and learning are good/outstanding, with QA systems to monitor and CPD to support improvement
  • To lead communication between school, home and the community regarding all whole school activities
  • To oversee all CPD activities in the school and with partner schools
  • To ensure that the school is fully staffed and to be proactive in recruitment
  • To take line management responsibility for several major departments
  • To lead on QA reviews for the whole school
  • To guide and have oversight of a Year Group

CORE DUTIES
Strategic Planning: /
  • To work with the Leadership Team to formulate a clear vision for the school
  • To develop the School Improvement Plan for the school following consultation with all staff and discussion with Executive Headteacher regarding strategic direction
  • To assist in the completion of the SEF
  • To be the lead professional on Teaching and Learning and CPD
  • To be aware of the 14-19 agenda and curriculum developments within Sheffield e.g. UTC
  • To oversee developments resulting from changes to the school population and in response to partnership arrangements
  • To work with the Executive Headteacher on ensuring full staffing throughout the year
  • To deputise for the Executive Headteacher and to act as a ‘critical friend’
  • To lead school assemblies, gatherings and events as necessary
  • To ensure that SchoolPolicies and practices, including Risk Assessments are in line with national requirements and are updated where necessary

Quality Assurance: /
  • To implement school quality assurance procedures and to ensure the effective operation of quality control systems in all the work carried out concerning Teaching and Learning and student achievement
  • To monitor and evaluate all procedures and processes put in place for managing Teaching and Learning and student achievement
  • To establish effective standards of practice concerning developments within Teaching and Learning and student achievement
  • To ensure staff leading whole school literacy and numeracy development are supported, monitored and held to account for student progress
  • To ensure that interruptions to teaching and learning are kept to a minimum
  • To ensure that appropriately qualified staff are appointed, both teaching and support staff

Management of Information /
  • To develop, in close consultation with the Executive Headteacher and Leadership Team, future developments for Teaching and Learning and CPD
  • To organise appropriate CPD regarding curriculum change and school improvement priorities
  • To manage the collection of data concerning the quality of Teaching and Learning, student progress and achievement and CPD
  • To disseminate information to staff at the appropriate times about changes in CPD and teacher standards
  • To ensure an effective system is in place for communication between school and home, regarding whole school events and activities
  • To ensure the maintenance of accurate and up to date information regarding CPD and Performance Management
  • To collect all the information on QA, CPD and Performance Management
  • To ensure that the processes are in place for recruitment of teaching and support staff matching whole school changes
  • To keep accurate records of internal and external examinations and their impact on the quality of teaching and learning opportunities
  • To keep records of staff changes throughout the year
  • To provide the Governing Body with relevant information relating to any aspect of Teaching and Learning and CPD. To lead on Governors’ committee – Teaching and Learning

Staffing: /
  • To promote teamwork and to motivate staff to ensure effective curriculum delivery and student achievement
  • To act as a positive role model
  • To participate in the interview process for all posts when required
  • To ensure that all systems are in place to ensure students’ learning and success
  • To lead and undertake Performance Management Reviews and to act as a reviewer for a group of staff within designated areas
  • To lead CPD to ensure that staff development needs are identified and that appropriate programmes are developed to meet such needs

Communication: /
  • To ensure that communication/consultation between Leadership Team, Subject Leaders, Key Stage Leaders, AEN Leader and all staff are clear on all matters
  • To represent staff views and interests on the Leadership Team
  • To ensure that all communication/consultation is appropriate concerning all aspects of the school. This includes the website, e-reporting, prospectus and newsletters
  • To liaise with teaching and support staff, partner schools, the LA, outside agencies and any other relevant bodies on a wide range of aspects regarding the school

Publicity and Liaison /
  • To help develop the main school prospectus
  • To contribute to the school liaison and publicity activities e.g. the collection of material for press releases
  • To actively promote the school within Sheffield and nationally
  • Lead the production of the school newsletter

Management of Resources: /
  • To work with the Executive Headteacher on managing the available resources of space, staff, money and equipment efficiently within the limits, guidelines and procedures laid down; including the deployment of budgets, requisitioning, organising and maintaining equipment and stock, ensuring appropriate records are kept
  • To evaluate the departmental budgets and to make suggestions for changes when necessary
  • To work with the Executive Headteacher and Leadership Team on the development of the school site and resources

Additional Duties: /
  • To play a full part in the life of the school community, to support its distinctive mission and ethos and to encourage and ensure staff and students follow this example
  • To attend school functions throughout the year

  • To take part in personal professional development
  • To engage actively in the performance review process
  • To undertake any other duty as specified by the Standard Teacher’s Pay and Conditions Document not mentioned in the above
