Associate Editor / Communications Officer

GMFA is a relatively small voluntary organisation, which needs to be responsive and flexible to changes in the field of its work. This job profile aims to describe the role of the post within this context. It broadly reflects the particular areas of responsibility assigned to the post and states the generic responsibilities of all staff. GMFA accepts a job profile will guide the work of the post holder and will need to be reviewed with the post holder as and when appropriate.

Role

To produce FS magazine, alongside organisational communications across various departments, co-ordinating the contribution of GMFA’s communicationsvolunteers.

Specific responsibilities

1. FS magazine

  • To liaise with GMFA staff team, volunteers, health promotion projects and organisations to create content supporting their interventions.
  • To generate content ideas.
  • To commission writers, designers, illustrators, photographers, models etc.
  • To research and/or write content.
  • To ensure commissions are received on time, in the proper format, style, and to the required standard.
  • To sub-edit submitted copy.
  • To work with colleagues and/or volunteers to ensure that copy is factually accurate.
  • To organise and oversee photoshoots or source images as need.
  • To adjust images as required.
  • To submit copy and images to designers for layout
  • To oversee the proofing process, including corrections and design alterations
  • To present each issue for approval and amending as required.
  • To liaise with printers, checking proofs and conducting any final alterations needed.
  • To arrange delivery of issues, storage and distribution in liaison with the Administrative Assistant.
  • To work within the budget of the project.
  • To meet deadlines and output targets prescribed by the contract and line manager.
  • To compile monitoring information on each issue.
  • To solicit input and feedback on FS from the staff team at GMFA and partner agencies, and work with FS volunteers to incorporate this feedback into future issues of FS.
  • To facilitate the creation of ads for outside organisations for insertion into FS.

2. Communications and Marketing

  • To produce GMFA email communications including:GMFA news monthly, weekly all volunteer email, quarterly donor updates, new donor correspondence, and patron correspondence and updates.
  • To update, maintain, and or contribute to GMFA social media pages including: GMFA Facebook page, FS Facebook Page, new pages as they come online
  • Produce or contribute to the production of other organisational communication, marketing, and fundraising materials as required.
  • To work with the Fundraising and Communications Manager on fundraising events as required.

3. Volunteers

  • Contribute to the recruitment and co-ordination of volunteers.
  • Contribute to the training, instruction and support of volunteers in developing the relevant skills for the projects and using those skills to contribute to the projects.
  • To work with the Fundraising and Communications Manager to schedule and facilitate regular evening meetings.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a guide for communications volunteers.

4.Database management

  • To oversee current database systems as they relate to your role.
