Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership

The University of Alaska Southeast invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership to complement existing expertise and contribute to our program. This position will begin with the 2018/2019 academic year. Our Educational Leadership program prepares administrators for both building and district administration. We seek a faculty member with demonstrated potential for creative teaching in a virtual environment as well as for clinical supervision across the State of Alaska.

Duties:

Support University of Alaska bipartite mission of performing teaching and public service. Teach courses in educational leadership and other programs. Supervise interns. Advise graduate students. Hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught. Be proactive in developing and modifying curriculum for delivery and other teaching modalities. Provide University and Community service.

Education & Experience:

  • The preferred candidate will have an earned doctorate at the time of appointment in Educational Leadership or a closely related field, however, ABD and masters level candidates with significant experience will be considered.
  • Applicants must have practical experience as both a building-level principal and as a district-level superintendent in a public school setting.
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a superintendent is preferred.
  • Successful candidates will have a demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from diverse backgrounds.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience working with private and public external constituencies.
  • Ability to advocate for the university.
  • Willingness to travel to rural and urban sites in Alaska for candidate supervision.
  • Familiarity with ELCC standards and with Educational Leadership course content.
  • Desire to collaborate successfully with colleagues in the Alaska College of Education and across the University of Alaska system.

The Alaska College of Education values collaborative scholarship among colleagues. The person in this position will be expected to work with colleagues both within the College and across the UA system in teaching current and new graduate and undergraduate courses, engage in clinical supervision, establish strong ties with colleagues in and across the College and University, including STEM faculty in local school districts, and participate in department, college, and professional service activities. The candidate will also be expected to work with colleagues to help ensure continuing accreditation and to facilitate for students coming from a wide variety of backgrounds. The position is located in Juneau, Alaska.
