Assistant Farmstand Manager

Green Meadows Farm raises certified organic vegetables and small fruit and non-certified laying hens, pigs, and sheep on our diversified farm on the North Shore of Massachusetts. The Green Meadows Farmstand is the major outlet to sell our own vegetables, meat, and homemade prepared foods. In addition, it is a retail store of local, organic and hard-to-find produce, perishables and grocery items. Being the face of the farm, the proper running of the Farmstand is key in maintaining our relations with the public and coordinating many of the events that we hold on the farm every year.

The Assistant Farmstand Manager is a full-time, seasonal position that will begin in April (some training in March) and continue through to December 23rd 2016 and they will directly report to the Farmstand Manager.

Responsibilities includeset up and breakdown of the Farmstand, inventory, stocking shelves, store upkeep and maintenance, managing Farmstand staff as needed, making creative displays and working the register. While working in the Farmstand, all sales staff are responsible for helping sell CSA shares, aiding our members and customers and informing them about upcoming events. This person will also be helping out with our social media, marketing signage and our weekly newsletter in addition to other light office duties. There will also be times the candidate will pick-up products from other farms.

Applicants must be friendly, outgoing and excel in customer service. We are also looking for someone who is passionate about locally and sustainably produced foods and knows how to cook the delicious vegetables and meat that we grow here. Applicants must have experience with Word and Excel and social media sites, and also be good at writing. Experience with Publisher is a plus. We create all of our own signs, displays and many of our own marketing materials, so a creative mind is essential. Previous retail experience is great, but the we are willing to train the right person. Employees must be able to lift 50 lbs easily and have a valid driver’s license.

The schedule will be 35-40 hours per week and Sunday through Thursday. Hours will vary according to the season, but generally Mon-Thursday mornings (7am-3pm) and Sunday all day. Applicants must be able to work Sundays. Mondays are an office day as the Farmstand itself is closed.

This position is paid hourly and ranges from $10-$11/hr, depending on experience. Full-time staff also get a full CSA share, farm subsidized health insurance and 20% off all items sold in the Farmstand.
