We are seeking to appoint an innovative and dynamic Assistant Faculty Leader of English to join our team. A passion for teaching language and literature, the ability to motivate young people as well as lead and inspire teaching staff within the department are among the qualities we seek. Embedding an innovative infrastructure within a new 14-19 academy that ensures all students receive an outstanding education at KS4 and post 16.

In particular, we are seeking an aspirational individual who is passionate about:

  • Promoting outstanding achievement at all levels across the UTC;
  • Working closely with university and employer partners to deliver a curriculum that addresses the disconnect between industry and education, specifically in the local context;
  • Implementing a curriculum that will give students a competitive edge in the employment market or university application process.
  • Accelerating learning for students at KS4, particularly the most able students who haven’t been stretched and challenged at KS3.
  • Delivering a post 16 curriculum that stretches both academic and technically minded students, as well as developing softer skills, ensuring students are career ready.
  • Outstanding teaching and learning being at the heart of driving successful outcomes for students;
  • The UTC context and the opportunities it presents to achieve outstanding learning outcomes and develop the whole student.

UTC Warrington opened in September 2016 and is on its journey to become an Outstanding Academy by our first inspection in Year 3. We aim to provide create an outstanding academic and technical institution, with support from our employer and university partners, to achieve the following objectives:

  • Address the skills gap, as identified by Government and the Energy and Engineering industries
  • Be known as a pioneering institution for outstanding quality STEM (Science Technology, Engineering & Maths) education in Warrington; filling the void which currently exists

Job Purpose: /
  • To assist theFaculty Leader with the development and leadership ofthe curriculum area.
  • To support the Vice Principal in the raising of standards of student attainment and in monitoring progress and supporting them.
  • To ensure provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students studying in the curriculum area/key stage, in accordance with the aims of the college.
  • To assist with the development and enhancement of the teaching practice of others.
  • To contribute to raising standards of student progress and attainment.

Part One:
Leadership /
  • To deputise for the Faculty Leader in their absence.
  • To assist the Faculty Leader in agreeing, implementing and reviewing appropriate targets through a strategic action plan, in terms of both outcomes of students and all aspects of teaching and learning. If responsible for a particular Key Stage, drawing up the action plan for quality assurance by the Faculty Leader for that Key Stage.
  • Engage in all aspects of professional learning and CPD – both for yourself (Middle Leaders Course or similar) such as the implementation and monitoring of good practice within your team, further to any whole college professional learning that takes place.
  • To assist the Faculty Leader with implementing, monitoring and reviewing a subject curriculum that is robust, fit for purpose, challenging and differentiated in terms of quality of provision (ensuring that it follows statutory requirements of accountability further to national guidelines where appropriate, such as Progress 8).
  • To assist the Faculty Leader in reviewing and update curriculum schemes for learning, and ensuring that this curriculum includes appropriate aspects of SMSC and British values.
  • Familiarity with the OFSTED framework and recognising all aspects of its potential implementation within your curriculum area.
  • Together with the Faculty Leader, monitoring behaviour for learning within your team area and implement appropriate support if needed.
  • Actively engage in any whole college or external quality assurance procedures, and together with the Faculty Leader acting on outcomes and implementing recommendations.
  • If accountable for a Key Stage within your subject area, keep records of student progress for the subject where appropriate, including the use of SISRA as a whole college data management tool.

Personal & Professional Conduct / A teacher is expected to demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct. The following statements define the behaviour and attitudes which set the required standard for conduct throughout a teacher’s career.
Teachers uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, within and outside college, by:
