ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1.  The terms and conditions of this post are determined by the Joint Negotiating Committee for Chief Officers of Local Authorities and supplemented by locally agreed terms and policies.

2.  This is a full-time, permanent post and the basic working week is 37 hours. With the exception of working on a public holiday, there will be no entitlement to payment or time off in lieu (TOIL) in respect of hours worked in excess of 37 per week.

3.  The post is Grade 18 within Leicestershire County Council’s grade structure. Grade 18 covers pay points 60 - 63 (currently £81,279 - £92,168 per annum). The commencing salary is usually the base of the grade, but may be dependent on qualifications and experience. Increments are paid, subject to satisfactory performance, on the 1st April each year (with the first being paid on the 1st April after 12 months continuous service in the grade) until pay point 63 is reached.

4.  Salary is paid is on the last working day of each month by credit transfer to a bank or building society account of your choice.

5.  The annual leave year runs from 1st April to 31st March. The entitlement for this post is 27 days per annum. An additional five days is added if you have at least five years’ continuous local government service.

6.  All posts with Leicestershire County Council are designated as casual car user (casual rate currently 45p per mile). The Council operates a car lease scheme which is open to all employees who are required to undertake business travel.

7.  Leicestershire County Council has made it a local condition of service that a 6 month probationary period will be served by all new entrants regardless of previous local government service.

8.  All offers of appointment are subject to medical clearance. This normally requires the completion of a medical questionnaire only, but may involve an examination. The relevant Chief Officer’s decision is final as to whether or not a medical report is satisfactory.

9.  The post holder will be entitled to join the Local Government Pension Scheme to which contributions are currently 9.9% or 10.5% of salary depending on the pay point appointed to within the grade.

10. The minimum period of notice that must be given by employer or employee in order to terminate employment in this post is three calendar months.

11. This post is a ‘Politically Restricted’ post. Employees who occupy ‘Politically Restricted’ posts are bound by the Local Government Officers (Political Restrictions) Regulations 1990. These Regulations set out activities that employees must not engage in. Employees may, however, apply for exemption from political restriction.

12. The County Council fully supports the system of collective bargaining and believes in the principle of solving industrial relations problems by discussion and agreement. Details as to the relevant trade unions will be available to the successful candidate and arrangements can be made for your subscription to be deducted from your salary. However, membership of a trade union is not compulsory.
