Primary Objective

To enable the delivery of Indigenous primary health care and related programs by participating as a team member maintaining the financial services of Miwatj Health.

Reporting Relationships

This position reports to the Accountant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Accountant in ensuring MHAC complies with all its financial reporting requirements to Governments and funding agencies in a timely, accurate and professional manner, including statutory reporting such as BAS, FBT, Superannuation & PAYG returns etc.
  • Provide a support role to the Accountant by assisting the Finance Officer’s and coordinating end of month processing, including the maintenance of the fixed asset register.
  • Assist the Finance Officer in the day to day processing, including data entry, payment and receipting of accounts payable and/or accounts receivable transactions to ensure that finance systems are maintained in an effective, timely and accurate manner.
  • Carry out year-end processes such as account reconciliations and assist with other year end processes as required.
  • Liaise with staff, creditors and debtors for the prompt resolution of discrepancies and disputes in a professional manner consistent with Miwatj values.
  • Provide overflow and relief support to the other Finance Officer’s and Administration staff.
  • Other duties as required consistent with the Assistant Accountant competencies, skills and qualifications.

Essential minimum requirements:

  1. Demonstrated accounts payable and receivable processing experience and an understanding of how these functions impact the broader organisation.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a cross cultural environment, fostering open communication and continuous learning with a positive and innovative approach to problem solving, goal setting and self improvement.
  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service.
  4. Proven attention to detail and well developed organisational skillswith the ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with computerised finance systems and Microsoft Office software, particularly MS Word, Excel & Outlook.

Desirable

  1. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of issues affecting the health and well being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander in contemporary Australian society.
  2. Accounting experience in an organisation providing primary health care services to the Indigenous population in isolated regions.
  3. Willingness and ability to undertake further role related professional development.
  4. Certificate in accounting or working towards a certificate or higher level accounting related studies.
