/ Geographic Systems Information (GIS) Analyst/ Conservation Easement Technician

Position Summary / The GIS Analyst/Conservation Easement Technician is responsible for providing support to Manager of GIS and Cartography by generating maps and deriving information using ArcGIS software for the Conservation Services department. The projects may include conservation easement mapping, stewardship management plans, and preserve mapping.
He/shewill also provide assistance to all project managers working on conservation projects and the Conservation Easement Program Administrator with conservation easement administration. He/she will assist with report and grant writing and compilation, easement monitoring, GPS data collection, due diligence, and real estate closing logistics.
Primary Responsibilities /
  • Assist Manager of GIS and Cartography Services in providing GIS support for all staff as necessary
  • Create GIS projects from blank map documents (.mxd) and from existing templates
  • Create digital GIS data, including on-screen digitizing and attribute table editing.
  • Work with conservation organizations, townships, counties, and state offices to acquire new data layers, as necessary.
  • Manipulate layer symbology to create readable maps using graphic and cartographic skills
  • Use ArcGIS Desktop extensions and ArcToolbox functions.
  • Participate in the development of web maps using Google Maps and ArcGIS Online.
  • Attend project meetings on and off site.
  • Utilize a Trimble Geo7X GPS unit to collect and map field data.
  • Assists Land Protection staff in all aspects of easement acquisition, including grant applications, due diligence during the acquisition process, easement baseline reports, and closeout of completed projects;
  • Assists Easement Program Administrator with administrative and record-keeping processes surrounding the annual monitoring process and communications with landowners, both routine and enforcement-related;
  • Monitoring of conservation easements;
  • Assists other program managers as time and necessity warrants.

Qualifications /
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, with two years’ work experience, or a Master’s Degree with one year of experience.
  • Experience using ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Online.
  • Cartographic and graphic skills.
  • Willingness to research and learn new GIS skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software required
  • Knowledge of Photoshop, Google applications, SQL Server databases, and Salesforce a plus
  • General knowledge of land conservation a plus
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to assist and work with a wide variety of people
  • Possess an enthusiastic and positive attitude

Physical Requirements/ Working Conditions / This isprimarily an office-based position, requiring frequent sitting for long periods, with occasional periods of walking, standing, bending and reaching. The position requires use of the computer and the telephone and handling large printed materials. The positionalso requires frequent work at outdoor sites, including driving and walking and standing on uneven terrain.
