Role reports to (Job Title) Head of Centre
Job Purpose:
Under the direction of teachers, participate in activities designed to meet the emotional, physical and learning needs of individual and groups of children.
Key Accountabilities:
  1. Assist in the organisation of the learning environment
  2. Assist in the delivery of learning activities for the student including post-tutoring and 1:1 intervention to check understanding and reinforce key learning points
  3. Assist the teacher by ensuring appropriate resources are available to support the learning
  4. Develop a positive working relationship with the student encouraging them to take an interest in their work and maintain motivation
  5. Develop a positive working relationship with the student in order to support their emotional development and improvement in their behaviour and attitudes
  6. Help teachers to maintain accurate records including personal records and evidence of progress files and keep students’ work well organised

Supplementary Accountabilities:
  1. Participate in professional development training
  2. Participate in staff meetings
  3. Participate in the appraisal process

Knowledge and Experience:
  • Good general level of education including GCSE Grade C or equivalent in Maths and English or further relevant training or experience in the absence of formal qualifications
  • Having or be willing to take on further training
  • Knowledge/understanding of adolescent behaviours
  • Previous experience of working in a school environment
  • Use of SIMS and other IT packages

Decision Making:
The post requires a reasonable degree of initiative and day to day decision making following consultation with the teacher.
Contacts and Relationships:
  1. Maintain good relationships with students and act as a good role model encouraging them to develop good relationships with others, develop their self reliance and self-esteem and motivation to maintain good behaviour and engagement in their studies
  2. Maintain supportive relationships with TAs, Teachers and Administrative colleagues.
  3. When requested by the teacher make contact with parents/carers and colleagues from other agencies

Health and Safety:
In accordance with the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 you must take reasonable care so as not to endanger yourself or other persons whilst at work. You must also co-operate with the Council to enable it to comply with its statutory duties for health and safety.
You must work in accordance with training or instructions given, make proper use of any personal protective equipment provided and inform your manager of any hazardous situations or risks of which you are aware.
You must ensure you undertake responsibilities relating to your position as detailed within your Directorate Health and Safety Policy.

Demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding, and promoting the welfare of children, young people and/or vulnerable adults. The post is Exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and subject to an enhanced DBS Disclosure.
